ive had my hunnie bun since septemer of 2016 and the whole time i had her i had changed her diet at least 2 times due to money issues .. at first she was straight pellets and was eating just fine but when i had to change her diet the first time i had did research to find out that she needs more then 13% fibers and proteins i had bought her this rabbit food that had oats, grain, wheat, nuggets that looked like cat food and whole bunch of dried veggies and fruit .. now the first few weeks she was eating it all then she started to eat everything but the pellets and when i couldnt afford to but that bag of food i bought her this healthy kaytee nugget and pellet bag of food and she will only eat the nuggets she hasnt touched any pellets for at least 2 months now …. she might be preggers she would be on day 13-14 if she is is sumn wrong with her or is she just being really picky or whats wrong ?? she is picky on her veggies and fruit aslo , she just turned 12 months and shes a jersey wooly , but i was told shes a dwarf angora by her previous owners and she keeps mixing all her bedding up with all her hay and pushin everything to one side she started doing this after she was bred is that normal to ???

Chances are she likes the food with all the extras in it, those are not always the best food, but bunnies like people like their junk food

Based on your pictures I’d say she is a jersey wooly, and I’ve heard them called mini angoras. The bun in my profile is a satin angora.

If she is with bun, you will want to make sure she is getting unlimited food.

            Hi Hunniesmama

Those feeds with the mix of grains, seeds, nuggets etc are really not ideal. As you have seen, rabbits pick out what they like and leave the rest, so they are not getting all they need.  Plain pellets offer a balanced feed.  I think you will just have to offer her the pellets only until she takes to eating them. Provide plenty of hay in case she keeps snubbing the pellets for a while.  But she should eventually come to eating them. Since you said she is likely pregnant, you could give her an alfalfa based pellet. They have more protein which would be good for her at the moment. You could mix a bit of alfalfa hay in with her other hay also.

It’s not unusal for rabbits to push all the bedding aside. They seem to like the bare cage floor. Bedding is not really necessary. You can just provide a litter box and leave the rest of the cage bedding free. However, for Hunnie, I wouldn’t mess with her habitat too much at the moment. She may become very protective of it if she is expecting. Do provide her a nest box and some more nesting materials.

I do need to mention that the subject of intentional breeding is not permitted on the forums here. Here is the relevant section of the Forum Rules and Guidelines regarding this. The links below are some really useful information that you may find helpful.

I just want to add, with her current food; can you take out the majority of the extra stuff and give her the pellets with a few of her favourites in there?

Could you put them in one of those containers that hang off the side of the cage?

ive tried that and she pick thru it so i only give them to her as treats and i did but she tried to rip it off the cage wall making to much noise at night she hates anything new in her cage for some odd reason she likes only pink boxes

I’d agree with Jersey. The extras in the food aren’t really good for her. She needs unlimited pellets (without nugget-like treats). With being pregnant, you want to aim for 15% protein and 26% fiber. She can go down to 12% protein after she is no longer feeding her kits, but always needs as close to 26^ fiber as you can manage. For pellets on a budget – I think the Rabbit-15 that I used to get from my local feedstore (by blue label) provided enough protein and fiber. They were 15 and 24. Peopel who can aford more will choose brands like oxbow and a few others, that don’t use meal byproducts and various other things, but I used feedstore pellets for a long time, along with fresh veggies, unlimited hay and fresh grass, and my bunnies raised 4 litters just fine. (They are now spayed/fixed and I use small pet select pellets and sherwood forest). No fancy cute colorful treats – just pellets, hay, and veggies.). After she no longer has kits to feed, you can start limiting the pellets, as long as she still has unlimited hay.
