Hellp guys, i got a new male rabbit unnuetered and i kept him in a different cage he was not interacting with him, the rabbit seemed sick and he started making. All my body itch me, so i got rid of him now my old rabbit is also making me itch my body i tested it, i keep on having red stripes and spots on my body its getting annoying, will this stay forever or is there a cure? I cant touch the rabbit now or all my body will start to itchh me real bad, please help!
You need to see a doctor.
I don’t know much about allergies, but you’ve had your third (indoor) rabbit for a while now [edit to add: yes, I mean your third rabbit overall, your indoor rabbit] so I’d be surprised if it’s an allergy if it’s only just started to affect you.
Could it be something else? Washing powder?
You can go to a doctor and be tested for allergies to try and work out what is causing the reaction.
On another note, tech, you need to stop buying rabbits. You bought another one and then got rid of him? Where did you take him?
It’s really irresponsible to treat animals like that, they’re living creatures, they aren’t disposable.
If I may I ask, are you an adult or are you a minor? (Don’t post your age)
If you are a minor then please ask your parent or guardian to have a look at the forum to learn a bit about bunny welfare. If you’re an adult then frankly you should know not to keep buying and then getting rid of pets like this.
Im (MOD EDIT: minor age) and im pretty sure it was from that rabbit, and no this is my second indoor rabbit which i decided to return to the shop because of the itching, somehow it transferred to the old rabbit i have and now he has the problem, im taking him to a vet tomorrow.
You need to see a doctor to find out what is causing the reaction. It’s probably not the rabbit. More likely a bedding, food or hay that was on the new rabbits fur. An allergy test will tell you the likely culprits.
Could mites be a possibility? That would be my only guess…
I have had several recent run ins with hay mites recently and it sounds more like them… You would experience different symptoms to a fur allergy…
The hay you are purchasing is probably contaminated so you will need to change suppliers… Unfortunately there is virtually nothing you can do to get rid of them other than dispose of the infected hay. Fortunately the mites will not usually bother your rabbit like normal mites but they will make life a living hell for us humans…. You could try treating your bun with revolution and see if that will contain it but I think it would only be a bandaid solution. https://www.agric.wa.gov.au/handling/straw-itch-mites I would also suggest a visit to your doctor as the venom the mites inject can cause infection.
I agree with Roberta, definitely something to look in to.
I’d suspect the pet shop rabbit gave your old rabbit some kind of parasite (fleas?) and that is what is causing you allergic reaction. It could be bites from the parasites, or a reaction to the parasites’ waste.
If you buy some Revolution Puppy and Kitten flea treatment it will fix all mites and parasites. Just be sure anything you use is bunny safe… DO NOT USE FRONTLINE OR COMFORTIS they will kill your rabbit… The symptoms you are describing are definitely not an animal allergy, you would be more prone to sneezing and runny eyes if it was actually the rabbit.. If you are near the sea a friend who was bitten very badly last summer found that swimming in the sea helped immensely to soothe the bites and rash.
We ask that minors do not post their age. I have edited it out.
I second what everyone has said, both about seeing a doctor and not getting any more rabbits.
Why shouldnt i get another rabbit?
I think what they are saying tech is you need to solve this problem first… Swapping bunnies isn’t going to resolve the problem… and if you are allergic to the rabbit (which I think is unlikely) you will be setting yourself up for another challenge.
We all gave you lots of reasons not to get another rabbit when you asked last time on this thread: https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aft/131746/Default.aspx
Overall you’ve had four rabbits, three of which you’ve decided to ‘get rid’ of.
As Roberta says, you’ll want to figure out this issue of allergy or mites anyway.

Why shouldnt i get another rabbit?
Answering just for this thread, since I haven’t read the other yer. Assuming it is parasites, having multiple bunnies will make eliminating the parasites exponentially more difficult.
What should i do then.. I havent went to the doctor yet and i still have that itch.. Can it be from the hay? Although ive always used this hay nothing was wrong.. Until i brought the other rabbit..
They’ve already given you a list of options: See a doctor, use revolution on your rabbit to get rid of any parasites, toss the current hay and get new stuff to make sure you don’t have parasites in the hay.
Yep Tech, The hay can be fine for ages then BANG, Mite infestation and you are itching and scratching and breaking out in welts all over… It’s a bugger for the farmers too as they have to get rid of it out of the hay crops and that’s no easy chore… best to change hays for now and get rid of any of the old stuff. The bites will stop and it will give the existing rash a chance to heal.
I think it is purely coincidental that the itching started when the other rabbit arrived….. If the rabbit had a parasite problem bad enough to cause you discomfort they would have been highly visible and the rabbit would most likely have been bald from mite mange…
Every thing you describe relates to hay mites and changing to an uninfested hay is the only way to get rid of them….
