Currently, I’m fostering a 6 month old rex named Dandy, I plan to adopt him soon. However, I was taking him in to the vet recommended by my local rabbit rescue for a possible abscess we found on his toe. When we got there a vet technician attempted to lift him onto an unusually high evaluation table about 4 ft tall. Dandy tried to squirm out of his arms and instead of repositioning his hold or realizing he was going to hurt the rabbit by pinning it and proceeding to place him on the floor, the vet tech dropped him. He fell 4 feet onto tile where he landed on his back. Shortly thereafter, the same vet tech attempted to pick him up and place him on the table two more times, seeming unconcerned with dropping him and more concerned that he was getting away. The vet came into evaluate his toe but nothing else was evaluated to see if he was hurt by the fall. My personal vet had no issues when she had to crouch down to evaluate my senior dog who had heart problems on the floor where he was comfortable, but this vet kept putting Dandy back on the really high evaluation table. She noticed that he had a bruised chin and a split lip. I feel like he came out with worse injuries than what he went in for. We don’t have any other vets in town that work with as many rabbits as the vet I am currently going to. But, the whole situation was treated horribly and I don’t especially trust them to handle him. I’m not sure what to do but our new vet may have to be very far away.
