My special little boy Kamdyn

Hi there I wanted to share my story with you about my amazing special little boy Kamdyn who I love to death this post might be a little long. My bunny kamdyn means the world to me because my father passed away and on my fathers birthday the first one since he passed. I was given a little bunny that I named kamdyn. I do believe that my dad sent kamdyn to help me heal. Kamdyn was 3 1/2 when I decided to get him a female to bond. Long storry short the bonding thing didn’t work out because my bunny was having some medical issues. I started noticing he was losing his balance and falling over after months and months of running test and going to the vets. I come to find out Kamdyn has a cancerous tumour on his spine. It litterally broke my heart in 2 because that is what my father passed away of. I didn’t know what to do next or how long my little boy would last. He was now 4 years old. I was given metacam and said that if Kamdyn would get chemotherapy I would have to travel 3 hours and kam probably wouldn’t make the trip. I was devistated didn’t know what I would do. I came home spent many nights crying thinking will I lose my precious little boy. Praying to my dad how could you give me this precious little boy and then take him away. I found an article about qualitfy of life and read it. Not knowing that article would change my life. I realized my little boy does quality of life and didn’t know that there were other disabled rabbits out there. After months of taking care of Kamdyn and getting him on a schedule and I am proud to say. My little boy is the happiest rabbit I know. I have made everything in his cage handicapp accessible. He can’t hop or walk so he scoots but let me tell you he went today from one end of the room to the other end of the room scooting the whole way. It does take alot of my time taking care of kamdyn and taking care of my other bunny sunshine. It has become a full time job. I am thankful I only work part time and at night. I never knew how special disabled rabbits were till I had one. The last time I took kamdyn for a check up at the vet she said you would never know he has cancer. I get so excited when I come home after work and I go to give kamdyn his veggies and he is hiding in his hidey house and he gets so excited that he scoots all the way over to get them. I just wanted to share my story to let everybody know how special my little boy kamdyn is and how honored I am to be his mother. Does anybody out there have a disabled bun? He certainly seems like a special little guy. He’s also very beautiful. I can see why you love him so much.

He’s certainly one of the luckiest bunnies around to have a Momma who loves him so much and is willing to take care of all his special needs. That’s wonderful that he is doing so well. He must have a very special angel watching over him.

I have mostly seniors right now and Mango has severe arthritis but he can get around pretty good.

I had another big white NZW named Maxine who had debilitating arthritis and one of her legs was atrophied and she could not get around – it eventually got very bad after trying acupuncture and laser therapy she was just not doing well so I had to let her go to the bridge – her quality of life was deteriorating and I didn’t want it to get so bad she was totally miserable. It was a struggle making the decision because she was eating but my vet and I discussed it and she agreed Maxine’s quality of life wasn’t getting any better.

You do form a special bond with a disabled rabbit simply because you have more daily care that brings you closer to them.

Kamdyn is beautiful. I’m glad he is getting the kind of life he deserves. It warms my heart to think of him pulling himself over to you so he can eat his veggies. Yay, Kamdyn!

Thanks for all the well wishes. I know some people would think a rabbit like this shouldn’t be living. That is far from the truth!

What a great story! Kamdyn is so beautiful. I have a disabled bun, Rosy. She is missing a back foot. I posted her story a few months ago: https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tab…fault.aspx. She is doing well, but her front leg has grown out to the side to compensate for the missing foot and she now has permanent joint problems. Her front leg acts more like a flipper so she can’t walk on ANY hard surface, it’s just like she’s swimming and can’t get anywhere. This has been a nightmare for litter training. Like you, I’ve had to make everything handicap accessible and the vet expenses are atrocious!

I can really understand when you said you prayed to your dad about sending you a disabled bunny. There have been times I wondered why, after eveything I’ve been through, I would get the one-in-a-million disabled bunny. But now I wonder how I ever got along without her. I think disabled animals have the sweetest spirits of all. 

I think it’s wonderful how dedicated you are to sweet Kamdyn and I hope you have many more years together.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. Some people don’t know how special it is to take care of a special needs bunny. I to understand now why my sunshine came into my life because my kamdyn wont always be here with me. Thanks again I enjoy reading other stories of people who have disabled buns.

Thank you somedays its hard. When you have a ton of laundry to do or to clean him up. In the end it is so rewarding when you see his face.
