The only kind that should be sold at Easter: Plush Bunnies!

I was super excited to see on Facebook that my SPCA was doing this.
They are selling plush Easter Bunnies to raise awareness that real rabbits should not be bought for Easter and raising money for the shelter at the same time. Later that afternoon, I stopped in to the SPCA to pick one up since it’s on the way to my horse’s barn. I got the cream coloured one. They fill out an adoption certificate that says ” I promise to love and take excellent care of this toy bunny” and the manager signs it. It’s so adorable. Lolz, big surprise that the Crazy Rabbit Lady (as in me!
) was the first one to buy one! I also brought them some lettuce for their real buns.
Then my Mom heard about these bunnies and made me go pick up another 3 the next day for her to give to her grandkids for Easter.
There was an article in yesterday’s newspaper about this fundraiser and about the responsibility of real rabbits and how they should never be given as a child’s gift.
I feel like the word is really spreading this year! If any of you volunteer at shelters you should mention this fundraiser and suggest they do something similar next year. It’s wonderful that they are spreading awareness and raising money. And people love it because they are helping the shelter and getting a lovely little plushie.
My city’s SPCA currently has a lot of rabbits (a lot being about 8). I used to volunteer with the rabbits and cats but I got too busy for awhile and my friend stopped going with me so I stopped for a bit. I was talking to the manager and she said the rabbits would really appreciate me coming in to play with them again since no one really does much with them. She recommended I attend another volunteer orientation course since it’s been almost a year since the last one and rules and things have changed. So I’m going to attend the meeting early April and will, once again, devote my time to (and fall in love with) shelter bunnies.
