My rabbit was diagnosed with Lymphoma today…

I have to be quite quick and simple with this very complex and emotionally traumatizing subject I’ve found myself in- as I am doing this from a work computer. Hopefully I have picked the right forum to post this in.  I am currently ripped to shreds. My two year old Dwarf rabbit has been diagnosed with Lymphoma. He doesn’t have any tumors, but his chest is filled with fluid. I decided to do treatment, not chemo- but the other treatment, prednisone, I believe it’s called, along with an array of other things that I can’t remember off the top of my head (I will have to come back later and specify as I’m currently floating thorough this day in a haze.) 

Information is sparse on lymphoma treatment in rabbits- at least at first glance of frantically searching the internet. I feel very alone in this and was wondering if anyone else is going through this as well. If anyone is, could you tell me your experience with using prednisone, how long your bunny has been on it, and if they’ve passed away, how long they lived while being on it? 

I don’t have friends or family. This bunny is (pathetically, in some peoples opinions) all I have.  Any first hand experience with this- good or bad, is welcomed. Thank you so much.

I’m so very sorry you and your bunny have to go through this.

You must be very attentive to identify a problem before there are any lumps/tumours. Early detection is really important so you’ve given your bun a great fighting start.

I don’t know about the various treatment options I’m afraid but I know the people on this site are very kind, experienced and will offer all the help and advice they can.

My thoughts are with you and your little bun. Xx

Oh my goodness I am so sorry you have to go through this. I myself have not been through this, but I may have some suggestions of where to get answers from people who do. First of all this forum, I’m sure someone who has been through this will see your post and reach out, but also look to Facebook. Such as disabled rabbit groups, I am apart of one and I have learned so many things from others experiences. Even though your bunny is not disabled, someone there may have some answers for you. I’m really sorry to hear this. I have no experience with this. Prednisone is a synthetic corticosteroid. It is used to reduce inflammation and subdue an overly active immune defense. It is often used in the care of cancer patients. Cancers need inflammation to thrive.

I hope you’ll get more answers. Facebook could be useful, as Moothebun says.

This lil’ bun is my best friend- I spend a lot of time observing him and his behavior. Thankfully, obsessively staring at him a him has helped me realize something was wrong.

My only experience with cancer is with the human kind, so I’m afraid I’m not much help, but definitely also look into homeopathic treatments that you could use in conjunction with the meds, and ask your vet if there’s an anti-angiogenic that’s safe to use with buns.
