Hi! So I recently bought my little bun from someone who I thought was a breeder, but I’m not entirely sure about her level of professionalism anymore. My buttons is supposed to be six months, litter trained, and docile. But bringing her home has showed that this might not exactly be the case. She understands the litter box in her cage, but when she’s out of her cage she’s going to the bathroom all over everything. I find rabbit pellets all over my floors, couches and chairs. I want her to explore and roam, she seems happiest outside of her cage and I don’t want to stifle that. But I’m not sure what to do about her potty problems. The woman I bought her from told me she never goes to the bathroom outside of her cage, but I’m starting to wonder if maybe this wasn’t true. She was selling Buttons because she had gotten pregnant by accident and ate her babies. I’m wondering if maybe she wanted to get rid of her for another reason. Her personality is completely different than how this women described. I’m just not sure if I was lied to, or if she has changed since coming to live with me. I love how energetic she is, and her adventurous nature is adorable, but she doesn’t really like people or have any desire to stay still like I was told she normally did. Any advice would be fantastic thank you!

She’s 6 months? I’m going to go with marking here because she is in a new territory and “hello hormones”. Even though her previous situation doesn’t sound like it was ideal, the person you got her from might not have been lying. I mean, she might have been fairly good with her litter habits. Being placed in a new home and at an age where her hormones are kicking in, it isn’t surprising that she is pooping everywhere. Your best bet will be to confine her to a smaller area until she is spayed. After she is spayed and her hormones have settled (~4 weeks post spay), then you can work on her litter habits and eventually allow her more freedom.
