Hi everyone, meet Nola, my 6 month old Dachshund mix puppy! She came from a terrible situation – her mother, along with many other dogs, were seized by the Humane Society here because the owners were allowing their dogs to inbreed, and were reported by their landlord. Nola and her two brothers were born in foster care, at the wonderful home of someone who works at the WSU vet school. The exotics vet at the school is also on the board of the humane society, and knew that these puppies would need good homes. Needless to say, I got “coerced” into taking one! The puppies in the litter needed homes that would be willing to cope with their special needs – Nola was born deaf, and has microophthalmia (one eye is smaller than the other).

“GIVES KISSES!”As you can see, Nola and Hazel get along fabulously! They are really a great match, and I am SO lucky I got such a great puppy who thinks the rabbit is just another member of the household.Yes, she sometimes gets a bit rambunctious and wants to play chase with Haazel, but that behavior is definitely not allowed, and is really rare now as she’s gotten older. It never stresses Hazel; most of the time she’s like, “UGHHHH this puppy is super annoying.” and just goes into another room for a bit; or she’s snake her head out at Nola in warning! They are never unsupervised, and when I’m gone Nola goes into her crate or the kitchen area, and Hazel still free roams, like the diva she is.
They groom eachother, too – I have yet to catch it on camera, but they’ll lick each other’s faces! It’s super cute.
