So i weighed my new bunny for the first time today and his weight is 593gs which is 1.3lbs (i had to use my kitchen scales and then convert it with google because when i put him on my electric scales it just stayed on 0 as he wasnt heavy enough to move them! ) he is a 10week old lionhead is he underweight? i thought he was when i got him as i could feel the ridges in his spine without even pressing i could just run my hand along him and feel them.. so what weight should a 10week old bunny be? And whats the best way for him to put on weight? Thanks for your help guys!

Every rabbits is different in size or shape, so to give an approximate weight would more than likely be incorrect 🙂 I did weigh my lionhead a couple of weeks and she would have been the same age but I can’t remember on hand what she weighed! I think it was something like 1.37lb ( 0.6 kg) If your rabbit is a healthy weight you should be able to feel the spine if you run your hand over their back (obviously it shouldn’t be visible) as if this is covered in fat your rabbit is more likely overweight. If you like you can put a very small teaspoon of rolled oats in with his pellets which helps put weight on and seems to help with runny poops too!

You know I can feel every little bone on Edson’s spine and back. He eats like a horse and drinks a lot too. The vet told me that it’s better to be on the thin side than overweight and he wasn’t at all worried about Edson’s weigh. Your guy is just a baby so maybe he does need more food. Not sure though. Have you seen a vet yet? You definitely should for an overall checkup.

well from what I know of lionheads an adult weighs a mere 3 lbs. to 3 1/2 lbs.  some are bigger at 5 lbs but not many. now these weights are for full grown adult lionheads not young babies. so don’t panic. about 1 yr they are their adult weight. they are smaller than dwarfs I think. lionheads are in the tiny category. I know a site that has them in categories of tiny small medium large and dwarfs are in small and lionheads in tiny. I cna’t find the site now I think it was best bunny pets or something it told about breeds and had categories. oh well anyway
