Hello all, I just built this today to replace Autumns raggedy old litter box. This I feel is far better suited to her size and functions better. Its not perfect, this is only a test, made from T and G (tongue and groove wood cladding) nailed together. How it works: the main litter pan (storage box) and a stack where hay is laoded via the swivel top and is pulled back through by Autumn to eat, all the while keeping hay contained and sanitary. When I build model 2, I will make the stack larger. Hope this is of use to someone.

It fits her perfectly! Model 2 …I’m on “Prototype 9” (just a hay feeder though, not a litter box combo). I should’ve made my models out of cardboard first; would’ve saved a lot of wood.

Thanks, I think she feels safer in there too as well as not using up so much litter as the old did. You can never have too many prototypes That’s a good idea, though I plan to build the final in beach, ain’t going nowhere then Its surprising that even with a fairly long history now, house rabbit litter boxes are still quite crude but hopefully this will change.

I’m not entirely sure but I think I read a post a little bit ago where someone said Beech wood was on the toxic wood list for buns? I know poplar, maple, kiln-dried pine, and birch are safe – there are more but I don’t know them off hand.

                That looks great, AD!
I especially love the magical hay hole

Thanks Luna, I will look it up. On second thought, I may just modify and build on this one to make model 2.
Q8bunny- thank you I only realised after I built it that there is a face in that board.

Update- seems to be working well so far, I made the hay hole larger for easier hay pulling and the litter box is being used.

That looks great! Careful the hay hole is not so large that she could climb up the chute.  She’d be like in Harry Potter with the floo powder ~ whoosh!

I do remember the topic of beech came up recently. I was certain it was safe but Ive also seen it on toxic list. If the wood is well seasoned, it should not be an issue. I just read on this site that its the recommended wood for building rabbit hutches. http://www.justrabbits.com/rabbit-house.html#materials
                    Again, well seasoned beech wood.

That’s a very luxurious-looking litter box! The color of the wood is such a good match with Amber’s coloring. She’ll look great in beech too

jersey- Thanks, was well worth it! That wouldn’t be too good Yes, its pretty confusing with the woods, thankfully she hasn’t chewed this one to bits- yet.

bam- Thank you, I thought so too. At least it looks neater than the old one which shattered when she dashed out of it recently, guess the plastic got too old.
