As I mentioned before, I’ve started re-building the NIC cage for my buns. This is my 2nd time building it so I had a pretty good idea compared to the first time.  The original cage was okay but it was getting old and needed a demolition.  My poor hubbie got stuck being a handyman for the buns.  The new cage will be 3 levels.   I cant wait for it to be done.

I decided to start from scratch. So we re-built the frame to improve the sturdy-ness. We then screwed rectangular metal plates onto the wood frame to so that the wood frame wont move around.  For the second level, we decided to place a piece of wood diagonally instead of a dowel rod. No specific reason, it was cheaper.

The original cage had wheels but it was attached to the cubes itself which wasnt much sturdy. So this time, we screwed it into the wood frame.

Wow! It is looking awesome! You will have to post more pics when it is finished!

EDIT: Oh and a suggestion to help make it more sturdy would be to put a dowel across the bottem grids because the bottem is not resting on the ground, so it will need some support like the shelves.

                I will post the updates.
I thought about supporting the middle part also and making it more rigid. But I’m thinking as the buns jump up and down, I want the cage bottom to flex with them. Because the cage is elevated, the original cage made lots noise when my buns jumped up and down. I tested the sturdy-ness of this new cage by putting my 200 lbs hubby in it. He looked like an overgrown evil bunny from a horror movie.

Wow your 200lb husband did not break it, well then there is nothing to worry about the sturdiness of the bottom.
