My mom won’t let me let me take my rabbit out of her cage

Hi! New member Sorry if this is way too long:

I’m really upset right now, because my mom told me that my rabbit Blossom is absolutely never allowed to play in my room anymore or in my bathroom (basically she can’t play anywhere in my house.) Blossom used to be able to rome freely around in my room/bathroom in the beginning of me having her, but for some reason something in my mom has changed. My mom just got extremely upset with me, because she caught Blossom running around in my room (I was only trying to clean her cage and I figured surely she would be able to play in my room at least while I’m cleaning her cage.) My mom thinks that Blossom will poo and pee everywhere, which is really not true she actually has never peed in my room once, she always goes to her litter box. Since I got Blossom at a young age, she was a bit harder to litter train in the beginning, but now she is almost completely litter trained now (except with the occasional poo here and there lol.) I can’t let her play in my backyard, because we recently had a huge flea problem and I don’t want her catching fleas again… So I’m not sure what to do, because every time I try to talk to mom we always get in an argument and she just ends up getting really mad at me… I’ve told her I’ll clean up the poos she leaves behind but no matter what I say she won’t budge. My mom basically thinks that Blossom should just stay in her cage for the rest of her life. I honestly feel that this is so unfair to Blossom, because she can’t get the exercise that she needs and I can’t even bond with her by playing with her… I’ve broken-heartedly considered giving her away if it would benefit her, but really don’t want to because she is such a sweet heart and I really don’t want to loose her  Also, I’m kind of scared if I give her away that she will go to someone who doesn’t know who to properly care for a rabbit… I’m just completely lost on what to do… any advice?

If she is absolutely adamant about not letting out the rabbit, ask her for the extensions for that pen so it totals 8 panels or at least 6.

I feel for all the young people on here who really don’t have much say in how their bunnies are cared for. I hope things change for the better in future. You can always go inside the pen to bond

Thanks so much this really helped!  I think I will add on to her cage, and hopefully one day I will be able to get her to agree with me on letting her out to play. 

And thank you, it gets frustrating when I’m unable to care for her in the right way, because of my mom’s rules. Hopefully my mom’s views will change soon.

I agree, you can easily make your bunny’s area bigger by buying more panels. If your mom is worried about the floor, you could get something to go under the pen like a piece of cheap linoleum. It would be pee-proof, but you would need to put something down so bunny wouldn’t slide around (e.g. fleece blanket, low pile carpet squares, etc.).

It is very clear that you want the best for your bunny, and I am sorry you find yourself in this situation. How frustrating!
Like BunLuv said, adding onto the cage would probably be the most realistic solution, at least for now. I do understand where your mom is coming from, carpet is a very difficult thing to clean, especially of smelly things such as bunny urine. When my bunnies were younger, I put plastic tablecloths over the carpet with fleece on top before I let them out to play. This way, the carpet was protected. Maybe you could ask your mom if you could try this in the bedroom or bathroom?
