Hi everyone! My name is Austin and I recently acquired my first bunny that is solely mine! She is a dutch, and about 6 weeks old. I’ve had bunnies around for quite awhile now, my mom owns 2 lionheads, a white angora, and a spotted mini rex, but I really wanted one I could own and bond and become best friends with myself. So, one day I came into my parents Western clothing/feed&seed store, where we often sell chickens, and I’m surprised to find that we now have 4 dutch bunnies, I picked up the first one I saw and instantly fell in love, although she wasn’t too happy about being held . For the next two days everytime I came into the store I would pick her out, and hold her the whole time. Everyday she became more and more fond of me, and started thrashing less and less every time I picked her up. I soon convinced my parents to let me keep her, and I named her Vegas. I took her home that night and built her cage, and let her run around my room, and she loved it and was soon binky-ing and running around everywhere. She is the most loving bunny I’ve ever met, she’s always trying to groom me, by digging at my shirts when they’re bunched up, or licking my face and fingers. She is the type of bunny that never stops moving, and is curious of EVERYTHING. Here is my Vegas!
Wow, I want to live in your house, I wish I had that many bunnies . The pictures don’t seem to be working? She sounds lovely, I love dutches, come to think of it though there isn’t a bunny breed I don’t like .

Fixed!(:
Thanks, cuter than I thought, and I thought she would be very cute. Are you sure she’s dutch? She doesn’t seem to have any of the dutch markings

The man who we bought the litter from was selling them because they didn’t have the right markings. Some of her brothers and sisters had most of the markings, but honestly I like her markings more than the typical dutch coloring. She’s got a weird little tri-color thing going on with a half saddle and I love it!
Cuteness overload!!!

Honestly, I just plopped her down in the seat and she did fine(: which is amazing because driving is almost all I do!
Really cool! Do you take her with you often?

Very! atleast 5-6 times a day.
Vegas is so FREAKING CUTE! I love the pic of you two making the same face =) That’s cool that you take her on drives, but is it safe for her to be sitting in the seat without a seatbelt? I always worry about that so I put my bunny in a carrier if we go out.
Ahhhh Vegas is soooo cute!! So cool that she goes in the car with you

Thank you!(: She doesn’t get thrown around or anything in the car surprisingly, she stays firm the whole time, you’re right, if I was to get into an accident, I doubt it would end well :/ I wish they did make seat belts to fit bunnies! I plan on getting her a little bed to fit on the seat, so the leather doesn’t hurt her also(:
Very cute bun! I think it’s great you have such a loving relationship with her already.
I do have a few concerns. If you were to get in a car accident she would not survive riding up front without carrier. For her best protection, it’s recommended they sit in back seat in hard shell carrier. I know it’s no fun that way and in emergencies sometimes mine sit up front in carrier but a couple months ago we were in an accident (some idiot merged into us on the highway and knocked us off highway). All the buns were fine and I have to say it’s most likely because of the carrier and them being in backseat.
Also, I worry about her hanging out with another bun if she’s not fixed. Especially a boy. There are tons of research you could do about spaying if you’re interested. It’d be for her best health. There’s just already so many homeless rabbits (I work with a rescue so you can’t blame me on bringing this up )
Congrats on becoming owned And welcome to BB!
so cute! she looks a lot like my callie!
How cool!! I had told my son that it would be interesting if you could leash train them so they were only right where you wanted them to be rather than roaming the whole house and having to be checked on constantly.
Does Vegas actually go for walks on the leash?

What I’ve started looking into is a harness that operates with the seatbelt so it functions just like she was wearing a seat belt, except it would cover her whole body. I know they have these for dogs, so I’m sure I can figure a very safe one for her. Shes’s only 6 weeks, and according to research I’ve done, she needs to be about 6 months. She is never around any boy bunnies old enough to reproduce, so I’m not too concerned about that yet, but she most definitely will be spayed when she is of age.

It’s more like she takes me for walks.(: If I try and walk her, she goes nuh uh! and hunkers down.
Seriously?! How did you become aware of this? Do fleas like rabbits? I wouldnt want my son walking his baby and bringing fleas back in to our kitties!!

I have no idea about the fleas! She loves walking me because it means she gets to eat bunches of grass and fresh greens! (with no pesticides of course!)
Somebody is well and truly bunny-whipped! Haha. And no wonder, she is very cute !
She looks like a blue otter (colour pattern) with bit of the dutch saddle marking. Or maybe an opal. It makes them look super cute.
I do want to caution about seat belts etc. the rabbit skeleton is lot more fragile then a dogs. The have strong muscles but not strong bones. It’s something that you’d need to take care about with a rabbit in a walking harness too. They can become accustomed to them (looks like Vegas has) but just something to be aware of.
The other bunnies are adorable too! Especially the tiny He-Man. Lol !
I agree about the seatbelt, though I’m sure there is a safer carrier or something you could sort of make that is sturdy and comfy, she will still enjoy car rides in. She’s young enough to adapt to something else still. I love having my pets up front with me, which is usually on my lap since I’m rarely the one driving, but I don’t take them in the car that much at all.
Would be kinda cool to figure out a way to make the car seat a part of the cage, like make a secure barrier around the seat itself, to where she will still be able to lounge on the seat but be protected. Which would probably just be easier to get a carrier though lol. Too complicated? hehe.
I know what you mean Mimzy. It’s nice to be able to still see them. When ever I take the rabbits in the car, I put carrier in the front, door facing me so I can still see them. Lol
@FrankieFlash: so sorry to hear about the accident! I’m relieved to read you all came out of it ok. Phew!

I want to do something like this! Or maybe spoil her and do the second one
hahaha the second one is so funny looking! These are great ideas for bigger animals, but not sure if it would be the best for a bunny. Guess you’ll have to test and see if it will protect her.

I hope I don’t ever have to test it! I think If I added a lot of cozy foam around the ribs and other vital areas, that it’ll be really good for protecting their little bodies and also be comfy(:
People don’t really put dogs in baby seats like that do they?!

I wouldn’t doubt it XD Dogs need protection too!
I agree and there are plenty of good harnesses to secure them like in the first pic. It’s the second one that seems weird to me. Doesn’t look too comfortable.
I wouldn’t do any type of harness in the car. Rabbits are just WAAAAAY too fragile. One hard brake and you could snap her back.
My guys go inside their plastic carrier and I seatbelt the carrier into the front seat. I also turn it so the front door is facing me, and my carrier has a top door as well, so it’s “open” in two areas.
Just to add, they are making a law in the US to require animals be in some sort of restraint. Whether seatbelt, carrier, or erm baby car seat. lol
I’m glad you’re looking into this. And thanks Jersey. I probably should’ve told you guys about it sooner but since we were all okay except for my car, I just kinda eventually forgot about it. But I’m glad we had that thread a while back to talk about car safety. (FOX might be interested in searching for it).
My parrot is not going to like that law! lol. He won’t scream, but he whines until I let him sit on TOP of the cage in the car or on my shoulder. He’s a little brat =/
I could see how the harness for a bunny in a car would be dangerous. I would also suggest more of an enclosed area for her somehow but to where she can still be in the front seat and you can see her. I’m sure there’s got to be something
This is a bit late, but want to Welcome you and Vegas and all the other bunnies. Certainly sounds like you inherited the “bunny” gene from you Mom!
Vegas is super cute. I want to steal He-man. I adore Rex’s and lost my little one 6 months ago. He-Man has great colouring. Very unique. You need a bunny named She-Ra now.
Glad to have you on board!

Thank you so much! We actually do have a bunny named She-Ra! I’m not sure why I haven’t mentioned her yet She is a blue eyed, white angora! (:
