Okay well even that can’t express how much better I feel about myself and how happy I am in life now. It may seem silly that just that can change everything around for me but it’s just a bunch of things adding up and this was the huge stepping stone I needed. Sure I still have drama now and then, like Aeron breaking up with me last month but….hey there are no shortage of men around and I don’t need a boyfriend to be happy anymore. I have 20 units of schooling to do and lots of rabbits and fish to keep happy.
SO!!!!!! Without further to do … (that’s what you say right?) **drum roll**
Those WERE my favorite jeans from American Eagle. I wore them all the time, they were so comfy and cute, but now….now I do not miss them one bit and I look forward to buying new favorite jeans in much smaller sizes.
I gained all my weight pretty much all around when my grandmother died. And I got all my rabbits at that time too…can we say….HOARDER??? Well thank goodness I stopped at 6. heh…. I was drinking everynight and then eating. And computer gaming until 4am and then sleeping until 1pm and doing it all over again. I added some school in between and called it my life. It was disgusting. I met Aeron and he made me want to be a better person for myself. I pretty much cut my food intake in half (I know some of my friends are unhappy about this) and started working out and doing things like normal people – going to bed by 10pm and getting up at 7am, exercising, playing with my pets, doing my homework, not drinking my butt off constantly, etc etc etc. I even stopped playing World of Warcraft after 7 years………yes……..7 freaking years. Wait….7….yea. wow….wooooowwwwwww… ![]()

I started off exercising with kettlebells. I looked up exercises on youtube and my exboyfriend is a fitness tester so he had lots of information for me as well. Exercise was a great start, I also go running in the local park.
Dieting, I started eating a lot less and asking myself “Are you still hungry?” Which most of the time I was already full so why keep eating? I keep away from anything really greasey and fattening, and keep it pretty simple. Cereal, meal replacement shakes, vegetables, chicken, eggs, and fruit. I did splurge and had a turkey burger the other day. It was fantastic. I am very hard on myself though. I don’t do “cheat” days and I can even be at a restaurant with friends that are eating all this delicious smelling 5000 calorie food while I eat my salad with light dressing. It’s been all about control and the DRIVE to get back to what I looked like in high school. Well I guess splurging for me is something still sort of low fat, but I stay far far far far away from fast food, soda and pizza. I also only have a drink about once a week if that. Drinking everynight was the main cause of my weight gain, which went hand in hand with depression, which then made me overwieght, which then made the depression worse. Wow what a vicious cycle right????
I’ve been spending lots of time now playing in my fish tanks as you know, I have posted a bit on them and I have found a new interest of doing hair!!!! I just redid my hair and added extensions in that such, and I did it for my cousin too and my other friend. I also bought some new fancy makeup from urban decay and have been enjoying socializing with my girlfriends.
So here is my hair that I just did ….if anyone wants their hair done –color + extentions …I’m your girl ![]()
Still not so confident with the red lipstick…but I’m trying to rock it…haha.
I am considering trying to get down to 120, but realistically I probably might start looking a bit gangly…so I think I will go for 125 and be done. I may not have tatas or a bum anymore but i’s all good!!!!!!!!
WHO WANTS TO CELEBRATE????????????????????
Now in other news…….I did my first plank today. I just discovered what planking was and so I did it today on my bale of hay.
Hahah, Lindsey, you have to use your arms in the plank as well XD
*STEALS INDY*
Lol….oops!
Good Job! I am impressed. But be careful about the hair solicitations online
Your state may have laws against that ( I am a cosmetologist, so I personally say rock it, girl! Do the hair if they want) and they can carry EXPENSIVE penalties. So make sure ya do your hair thing via IM or email, so you can tell your state “I was only helping my friends” ![]()
Oh it was just a joke really, I don’t know anyone on BB in real life so…I doubt I would ever do anyone’s hair. Thanks though for the tip.
See, before I went to school, I was that girl! Very serious about doing your hair for you. Then I was filled in on my state’s picky rules and it scared me, lo. The real point was CONGRATULATIONS on your amazing journey!
Thank you ![]()
LOL I’d let you do my hair but you are far away and mine is long long long anyways. You look fantastic and you must be bursting with pride-acheiving goals is so awesome
I think you don’t want to get obsessed and drop more weight-you look great, muscular and trim. Choose a different goal instead since at your height your very light-I think you look great ![]()
Hugs, Linds. You look fantastic and I”m glad you are feeling better about yourself :~)
Congrats to you!!!
I’m on my way to my ideal weight. Still have a ways to go but it sure feels to good to put on last year’s Fall clothes and find them loose! I need to discipline myself with more exercise though…I hate exercise!!!
Love your hair too. I wanted something like that a few years ago during my goth faze and the hairdresser totally mucked it up.
Thank you!!! It’s really easy to do if you have the time to learn. I had the oppotsite of that a few weeks ago with blonde base color and dark brown underneath. I am not sure which one I like best.
Rachel pointed out to me that my foundation no longer matched my skin from all my vacationing over the summer. Hahahaha!!
I think I really like more blonde but it’s SO bad for my hair so I went back to dark brown which is my natural color and went with blonde extensions so I don’t have to nuke my hair anymore. It was fun but SO high to maintain!
I should go into undercover work, I can look like 2 different people in the matter of no time!!
holy crap,, is that how much bunny hay you buy at one time?
LOL yes
It’s only 20$ for the bale, lasts awhile but I’m sharing with Lashkay and I have 6 bun buns
Congrats Linz, that’s simply fantastic! More power to you!
You look more than great, and congratulations on losing the weight!
As someone who has lost a lot of weight before (and then gained it back plus, and is now losing it again) let me just caution you not to become too obsessed about the numbers. I know it’s easy to focus on them, but when you get TOO focused on them then it makes it really easy to cross the line from “trim” and “fit” to “unhealthy”. Again, I’ve been there and done that. Instead of the numbers just concentrate on health. You’re fit, you’re healthy, and you’re absolutely perfect just the way you are.
– Annette
Scooter and Annette, agreed! ![]()
I like you with your dark hair best. I think it’s more dramatic and it suits your coloring better. But really you look great either way.
Congrats! You look fantastic and you’re really inspiring.
I like you better with dark hair too – I think it makes your skin look great!
Thanks ladies <3 <3 <3 I like the dark best too…haha…less work!!
Congrats!!
If it is not too much to ask, and you don’t have to answer if you don’t want but what where you before you started losing weight?
For me it is going slowly but surely. With my work constantly dumping more hours on me, I am not having the time I would like to hit the gym, but I am spending time at work on my feet running around after customers, so it is a workout in it’s own right. Just not the same accomplished feeling I get after the gym. Our biggest setback is eating out. My husband has work and school, and I am working a lot lately. Neither of us feel like cooking after being on our feet all day and I have a migraine induced by customer stupidity. >.< But I try try try to count my calories the best I can and be careful what I have, even when dining out.
Mostly I just want to be healthy, not necessarily “thin”. I know it sounds like a typical fat person excuse, but I am short (5′ 6″) and large boned. I have my paternal grandma’s build, she was the exact same way. I have like no fat on my hands or wrists, but I cant barely fit those solid bracelets you see at women’s clothing and jewelry stores over half my hand, my bones are just that wide. It is ridiculous.
I know the question wasn’t directed at me, but I’m going to pass along a website that’s really helped me.
http://www.myfitnesspal.com
Totally free site, easy to use, and really great.

I was 162 when I started dieting, when my grandmother passed away with clothing and shoes on I was 172, so maybe I was 168 at my heaviest? I had the weight on myself really evenly, I didn’t have rolls or anything so I never really felt large until I looked at myself in photos and realized my face was larger and I didn’t see my collar bones anymore.
It was rather sad actually, I was in this emotionally abusive relationship and he called me fat, ugly, and disgusting so many times I started believing it. I left him and decided to make myself happier and knew this was where to start. I have always been thin all my life and I gained the weight from drinking and eating too much so I stopped that and luckily it fell off in 6months. I don’t mind sharing my story, I am so proud of myself and I know there are surely others out there that had a traumatic experience which led them to drink a bit too much at night and not sleep well and eat more than they should. Or sometimes life is hectic and we want to become healthier.
If you don’t have time for the gym, and personally I don’t care for my gym much – I mostly work out at home with my kettle bells.
This is the first video I ever watched to get ideas of what I was going to be doing with them

When I go out to eat its really hard to not want to eat all that stuff that is bad for. I always stick to a salad and ask for the dressing on the side so I can control how much I eat of it. That takes so much discipline as simple as it seems
What about getting a crock pot and making dinners with that? It’s simple and it cooks all day while you are gone!
http://www.crock-pot.com/recipes.aspx
Even if you don’t have time to exercise right now, try just making simple changes to diet and see how that goes for you.
Some really good things to think about: diet and fat free items actually have more bad stuff in it for you – chemicals (not the good ones), and having the regular stuff is a lot better than the fat free/diet stuff. Cutting out take out. The amount of sodium in take out can be skyrocketing – an average person needs about 2,500 mg sodium a day.
My dad and I cook on our days off and we bring that food on our work days. We use certain sized portions when we pack our food. What do you have for snack? I eat fruits and a small handful of nuts. It keeps my energy going =D
I’m reading ‘read it beore you eat it: how to decode food labels and make the healthiest choices every time,” by bonnie taub-dix. it is really mind blowing ![]()
Good luck joyfull!
Joyful, do you like soup? It’s so easy to make and really healthy (as long as you don’t make cream soups all the time). I like making a big batch and taking it to work for lunch, or eating for dinner. I have a soup cookbook that has a chapter on a “diet” soup (the author calls it “The Soup”). It’s basically a simple veggie soup, but there are a lot of variations so you can change up the flavor, change up the veggies, use fresh veggies, use frozen, etc etc. I haven’t tried it yet, but it does seem like a good diet plan, especially for the winter months. I never feel satisfied with salads or cold raw veggies, but cooked veggies in broth is so much more satisfying for some reason.
Both of you are right, and soup is also a wonderful choice!
There in lies the hard part. I am not too huge on soup, but my husband loves it. We do settle on chicken dumpling soup from time to time though. Me personally I would love to throw a small roast and a bunch of veggies into my crock pot and let that go all afternoon. But my husband would not eat it. Sure he would eat some of the veg, but what am I supposed to do with all that roast. Even the smallest ones I can find are too much for just me, and by the second day of leftovers I would be so sick of it, that the rest would end up going bad. And if there is one thing we hate doing, it is wasting. Especially food. I do have some chili and beef stew still in our freezer. I made some huge batches in the crock pot and froze them a while back. Two of the few meat dishes he will eat. I have also been meaning to make and freeze home made pot pies for us. Really easy to do, it is just a big time investment. He gets veggie and I get usually chicken or seafood. We have polar opposite tastes in food. Although I am more open minded then he is.
And I know well enough not to trust anything diet, lite, reduced, low fat, ect. Like I said I am a big label reader. Like the light and fit yogurt for instance. Sure it is less then 100 calories, but has aspartame in it. I would rather skip on that crap and take the extra 20 calories for a different yogurt. Which is about the only low fat item I will eat, cause usually low fat yogurt is like normal yogurt, with a lower milkfat content. Just read the labels. I tried doing my own yogurt once and mixing it with my home made preserves, but just did not care for it much. A lot of people have suggested cottage cheese and fruit, but I hate hate hate cottage cheese.
Congrats, I saw this on FB too! That’s a great accomplishment! I would second the other people here and say don’t get too hung up on numbers. I don’t even have a scale in my house, I tend to go up and down within a 20 pound range and can just tell by the way clothes fit. I recently was at the upper end of my range (grrr) so have been dieting a couple weeks.
As someone older than you I can definitely vouch that it’s a GREAT idea to keep fit in your 20s. Once you hit 30 it’s harder (or at least slower) to lose weight, and I think since I was a fitness fanatic in my 20s it prevents me from getting horribly out of shape even when I’m not exercising as much. If you lost 30 pounds in 6 months, that’s a really great rate of loss and will be more likely to stay off. Once you maintain at this weight for awhile you’ll find you no longer need to be as strict with food all the time (as long as you don’t go crazy!)
At my job they feed us, which is bad news since it’s usually high-fat. I just eat very small portions and have been bringing my own food. I completely lost my appetite the other day because there was GLASS in my food. However this is probably not a dieting tip that I’d recommend for everyone ![]()
Congratulations and go shopping!! ![]()
I’m a huge fan of how the Japanese eat. They eat over 100 different things in a week o_o
I just now got around to reading this thread, but congrats!! That’s quite the accomplishment
.
Since starting school and moving out to live completely by myself for the first time, I’ve actually lost 5-10 lbs since August. I’m pretty lazy about cooking on a regular basis, and too cheap to eat out all the time, so what I end up doing is making really basic meals that ironically are both easy and way healthier than I used to eat. I’ve cut out pan frying due to laziness/time (and pan frying is essential to Asian cooking!) and now only steam/boil everything, since it’s easy and foolproof, haha. My typical meals have been brown rice, steamed fish/pork/chicken, and blanched veggies…which also means that I cook with very little added oil and salt. Of course, it helps that I’m very tolerable of plain/repetitive meals, but in the past two months I’ve managed to eat out only a handful of times, all of which were for social occasions. I’ve always been on the petite side (now 5’4″ and 108lbs) and know I shouldn’t lose any more weight considering my height, but I feel a lot better and healthier now than I did when I was in college pigging out on junk food and eating terribly. Funny how food can do that to you!
Wow, congratulations! You have so much to be proud of! It’s truly inspirational
Oh and I hate soup. I feel like I’m the only one. I just hate salty stuff, so I get the low sodium and sorta eat everything but the broth when I actually do eat it. I remember it was something I ate often in college bc it was low fat and easy to make in my dorm room…although I should have been eating more given my active lifestyle…but that’s a whole different story I don’t need to get into!
Joyfull…I have to make 2 different meals every night bc the husband and I have very different diets. aka he likes everything with cheese, meat, and I go very light on the meat and no cheese at all. I always laugh when we go out to dinner bc he orders something like chicken alfredo with sausage and a creamy soup for an app…and I get whole wheat pasta with broccoli, maybe some chicken and red sauce on the side..salad with dressing on the side… He makes me feel better bc at least one of our orders is easy for the waiter! I pretty much make up my dinners when I go out. Anyhow, you need to do what works for you. Since we have different tastes, I tend to make chicken for both of us, but I’ll bread his or add cheese, or both, and I’ll bake mine. Then I’ll steam a bunch of broccoli for both of us and he also gets some rice or mac n cheese or something similar to that. If I have something else I’ll have brown rice.
It’s hard, but I’ve gotten used to having food ready at all times. I bring my lunch to work, I bring extra healthy snacks just in case I get hungry. I even bring my own food when I go to someone’s house for an overnight stay or when we travel, etc. because I don’t eat fast food and would rather eat my own food than out. Like I said, the husband is opposite and loves to get his occasional fast food fix, although he’s mostly healthy in the grand scheme of things. He and I are both distance runners…but I try to keep the diet of one! haha Plus guys just don’t seem to have as much trouble with weight loss as we do..it stinks . I would second the suggestion someone had of using a website to track your food. I use sparkpeople, but there are all sorts of sites to use for free, and they’re great. I would start out by tracking your food for a week or so, track EVERY bite, nibble, etc. And just see what you’re typically taking in for calories. Then you can be realistic about what to cut out and how much you’re consuming vs what you think you are. It’s a real eye opener. I’m not sure if this helps, but there are resources out there that can help guide you. Oh and drink water! even if you hate it, make it a habit.
I have a recipe for minestrone soup that has 50mg of sodium per serving.. it is homemade and tastes great
Weight Watchers just opened a program for Men.. so yes, men do have trouble losing weight! I think it is awesome that the program is offered to men as well ![]()
Ali, I was talking about homemade soup, not the canned stuff
I hate canned soup with a passion (it is really salty), but love the stuff I make for myself from scratch. They’re completely different (and you can add as much or as little salt as you want). I try to make my own chicken stock from scratch as well, when I have the stuff to make it.
eta: I’m surprised so many people have to change what they want to cook for their SOs. I guess I’m lucky that DH eats just about anything! He was pickier when we first got together, but I think it was because his mom is picky and it rubbed off on him. Once I started making different food for him he’d eat just about anything. I do wish he was ok with more vegetarian meals – he just prefers to have some meat added (we rarely eat big pieces of meat, generally cut up in stir fries, pasta, etc). I would definitely not be ok with making two dinners every night! I think I’d make him fend for himself ![]()
Oh okay Elrohwen
I’m sorry I wasn’t trying to bash your soup in any way! Just offering my own feelings on it…it’s just not for me, and I am far too lazy to make my own (I’m sure yours is wonderful)! Aside from the salt though I still really just don’t like it. I need to chew/feel crunch when I’m eating or it’s not as satisfying. haha But that’s just me of course. My parents were always good with making it too, and I still never wanted it… I think it’s the same as smoothies, although I love the taste I always feel like I’m missing something without the crunch!
No problem! Didn’t mean to come off that way – I just wanted to make sure people knew I meant that homemade soup is great for dieting. I worked for a soup company and I don’t really trust their products, so I wouldn’t recommend a diet based on their foods, so I totally understand that you don’t like them.
I always eat my soup with bread or something – I know what you mean about needing something solid to go with it.
Oh and I wasn’t trying to say men don’t have trouble losing weight. Sorry I’m just all over the place messing up today.. But I know for my husband, as well as some others, he has a pretty good metabolism compared to me. So we can both be training similarly, and I’ll be watching out much more than him and he’ll lose weight a bit faster than me. So I’m saying this for some cases, not all of course
I also know I’ve sorta messed my metabolism up from previous unhealthy eating, or lack of eating, phases…something he never did. Hope that makes more sense. I was just rambling too much…
No worries, Ali 🙂 I know what you mean about men – sure there are some that struggle with their weight, but I’m married to a guy who is stick thin no matter what he eats and it’s certainly frustrating for me! Haha
I think men also don’t talk about weight loss as much. I know some men who have lost a bit of weight, but unless you pull it out of them they’ll never bring up the fact that they actually worked at it just like any woman would. It seems to be a much more common conversation among women.
Hahah, no no I didn’t meant to be mean Ali!! I just have been seeing the commercial lately and thought it would be interesting to bring up
My boyfriend has a super fast metabolism and really enjoys chips and can eat fast food o_O;; I haven’t had fast food in ages. When I do, I feel gross and bloated afterward. He feels none of those effects afterward.
My dad has said that after he turned 30, his metabolism changed. In his 20s, he used to run around the island of Oahu a few times a week.
Nobody can tell that I’ve gained weight after losing my mom, but I sure can
When my mom was ill, I ate horrible and it was even worse after I lost her. I got tired of it and joined the gym. I’m still working on my eating habits. I LOVE to eat, but I’m really into looking for new recipes. It makes life more interesting to find food that looks awesome and tastes just as awesome! Plus, I save money from making my own food. I do have my moments, and if I do want a soda, I’ll have it.
When John and I move in together one day, he’ll have to eat what I make.. lol
I really like homemade soup!! It is awesome! I cannot stand canned soup, unless it is tomato rice soup. That is again salty, but I only eat it when I’m sick hahah!
ChaCha, a few of our friends make jokes about how DH will get fat once he turns 30 since his metabolism will slow down. I kind of don’t think it will, since his entire family is naturally thin, but I think our friends are not-so-secretly hoping that he won’t be able to eat 4,000 calories a day without gaining an ounce.
*grumbles at glares at the 30 that isn’t far off on the calendar* grr.
MB, it’s not too far off for us either, sadly 🙁 I have 2 more years to go!
My husband barely touches meat. Most he will eat is hamburgers, beef stew, chili, and chicken on very rare occasion. I think the only time I ever really see him go for chicken is in his thai food. A certain dish he really loves and I have no idea how to spell it. He is mostly a pasta guy. He will make a meal out of cooking up some angel hair, then topping it with some olive oil, garlic and Italian dressing. He likes most types of salads so long as they don’t have any mayo or anything. Like that kind made with rotini pasta, veggies and Italian dressing. Or making a pack of ramen noodles, then topping it with cilantro and hot sauce. Yeah that is the kind of disgusting stuff my husband likes. I am a polar opposite meat and potatoes kind of girl. If I do eat pasta I can only do it if it is piled up with sauce, meat and cheese. Just don’t like noodles much.
At least neither of us like deep fried foods too often. I am not huge on french fries. If we are ever out with friends to eat, I will at most pick at my fries, then pawn them off on someone else.
Cheese on the other hand. OMG do we both love cheese. I found a nicely aged block of cheddar in my fridge that I had forgotten about, and now I am thinking souffle for dinner this week. Mmmmmmm.
You would be shocked at the amount of calories in pasta! I sure was. A 1cup serving (that’s a cooked cup not uncooked noodles) of plain pasta is about 300 calories. I get about 1300 calories a day (not including any calories earned from exercise). But a cup of pasta by itself isn’t very much, especially on its own for dinner, so a meal of 2 cups of pasta and say 2 oz of cheese is about 800 calories, just for that. Cheese too – high in calories and fat. I love cheese, sadly. Keeping track of all this stuff on My Fitness Pal has really opened my eyes to exactly how easy it is to go way over on calories without even realizing it.

mmm pasta
I could live on pasta!
