my cat is scared of my rabbit?

Heyo!

When I first got my bunny, and I introduced him to my kitten, she (the kitten) was scared of the bunny. I thought that it was just because he was new, but it has been well over 3 or 4 months now and she is still TERRIFIED. The bunny hasn’t been neutered (yet), and he isn’t aggressive or anything. Any ideas as to why she would be scared of him?

How do you know she’s terrified? What behaviours is she displaying?
How about your bunny-how is he acting?
Do you let them interact unsupervised?

she gets tense and runs out of the room, and her eyes get big
the bunny is just sniffing her and hopping around slowly, hes not being agressive
no i dont let them interact unsupervised, im scared the cat will do something to the rabbit

How old is your kitten? She may be afraid because she is young and not that confident. Cats and rabbits generally get along just fine. Not like as in buddies (there are some exceptions), but they tolerate and live together just fine. My 13 year old cat didn’t like it when my male rabbit Merlin approached her. He was unafraid. She allowed a few seconds of nose contact, and then gave him 3 or 4 super quick swipes with claws in She didn’t even touch him, just asked him to back up. She is more used to them now and tolerates them better, but doesn’t “like” them. I’d say your kitten is either playing – or afraid. And only you know her body language. If she is playing, well, she is out of luck. If she is afraid, she may relax about it as she grows up. Kittens are strange and whacky creatures. Sometimes it is impossible to figure out what is going on in their hairball brains. They are so dam funny though 🙂

There is one member here whos cat swiped at a bunny and the bunny’s pal rushed in to defend first said bunny, and took the swipe in the face. Once your cat settles down around the bunny, I’d watch their interactions before deciding if I am comfortable with them alone. I leave my cat alone with my bunnies, She is fine with baby bunnies too.

Remember one important fact; kittens are psychotic little creatures (and I say that in a loving way as I have cats LOL ). I’m actually dealing with the same thing and mine aren’t kittens. Remus will literally chase my big old guy Pockets (he’s 17 and just monster sized) out of the room as Pockets is terrified of him. The other cat, Squeebles, hid for the first 48 hours from him as he was scared. He now avoids him. Very much not leaving them unsupervised right now. I say, as kittens are highly unpredictable, just keep an eye out. Let the cat sort it in its own time. They tend to adjust well given time.

I have 6 cats and each one acts differently toward my bossy bun. I have one cat that will go no where near him and has been that way since day one. I have one that has become his “wife” she gets in his cage with him and they snuggle in his house. As long as you keep an eye on them and the cat is not trying to attack him or his is not aggressive with the cat they should be fine.
