I recently got a bunny that I’ve had for about two weeks now three days ago I bought him a bunny house that he can go into and whenever I try to pick him up or pet him or even sometimes open the door to his cage he runs inside not letting me touch him. I don’t understand why he’s all of a sudden doing this when he never did before I got him the bunny house. Please help!!

He sees the house as a safe zone. This is normal for him to want a place to retreat to if he feels nervous or afraid. He’s only been at your house for 2 weeks so most likely still is feeling insecure. Most bunnies hate being picked up and will avoid it if possible. You need to ear his trust for him to enjoy being pet. Try to just spend time with him at his level. Sit on the floor and read or watch tv. When he comes to you, you can offer a small food treat like a pellet and let him sniff your hand. This is a good way to earn trust.

Rabbits got bit scared when you touch them straight as their eyes are on the sides. try to go from side , touch him and then pull your had back. Do this like ten times so he will see there is no need to be scared. Mine was very stressed first few days. If you lay down on the floor and let rabbit come to you, he or she will get used to…. because imagine if you randomly get to world with creatures tall as giraffe big as elephants handling you and talking in language you don’t understand xx

Your bun will be ok xxx

I think the thought-experiement Kitty suggests is very helpful =) Everything is new to him, he’s very samll, you are big, he belongs to species that is food to so very many other species. And it’s important to remember that rabbits (like deer and several other animals that are prey to predators) don’t see well straight ahead, when they look at you, they do it from the side.

It’s very good that he has a safe house to run to. You can give him another one made from a cardbord box, cut two holes in it (they like to have two exits, like in a bunny warren) and place it away from the other house so he has an alternative safe house. It will make him more inclined to explore his new surroundings.

You are likely to see many new types of behaviors from him as he learns to be a rabbit in your house.
