I conduct static electricity SO MUCH! I am always shocking myself and others so badly I see sparks literally fly. This normally isn’t a problem because I use dryer sheets, but Barnaby is obsessed with them and tries to eat them and I worry he will get sick from licking me after I use them, so I haven’t had them around. I will shock him five or six times in a row and he still wants me to pet him, but he got shocked today pretty hard on his nose and so now he is confused as to what he did wrong.

Should I just use dryer sheets? He licks my hand a lot, so I don’t want him getting chemicals into his system. I don’t even have carpet! just concrete floors and a big mat.

Barnaby and I would appreciate any suggestions…

I use dryer sheets and have never had a problem – I’m confused. Can’t you just wash your hands after using the dryer sheets so he’s not licking it off? Or am I missing something? LOL.

I think they are using dryer sheets to end the static during the day, by rubbing them to discharge the static? For that it would be better to use the reuseable fabric dryer sheets, rather than the disposable ones. They are unscented and chemical free, the fabric is designed to combat static and will last you a loooooooooong time.

I have the same problem. I can’t touch anyone or anything, especially during winter, without sparks flying. I touch my blanket and there is a blue shock. Bumping against the wall in the morning, or touching my boyfriend on the back as I walk by causes a shock. A humidifier helps in the home. Also, for ending the charge before bunny petting, you can keep a piece of unpainted metal around to discharge it (won’t even shock you). I use things like my computer case side (NOT the computer itself, you don’t want to fry the motherboard or anything, but I often have the case side off and just sitting around anyway) or something like that. If while you’re petting the bunny, you feel that familiar buzz of static charging, you can just reach over and discharge it safely on a piece of unpainted metal and go back to petting. They also sell static wristbands for computer building, you can get them on newegg and they keep you from building up enough of a charge to shock anything, but they do require grounding to something in the room.

As for him getting shocked, he’ll forgive you. I did it once to Stickers nose on accident and she took a few days to get over it.

I wish. If I do that, I just start shocking him again. even with the dryer sheets I shock him, just not so bad. haha yeah, but poor man already has a grumpy face, so when he is actually grumpy, I can’t help but laugh

Haha poor baby, at least he forgives quickly. Stickers took a few days before she’d let me rub her nose again! But, I am used to it, people tell me to stay away from them when I am shocking things too badly anyways.
