For those of you with house bunnies and homes with multiple floors, do you have a litter box on each floor or does your bun go up/downstairs to use the box?  My bunny has started to jump the baby gate I use to keep him downstairs so I figure it’s time I try letting him have more freedom, LOL. But I wasn’t sure if I should put a litter box upstairs or not. It would be great if he went back down the stairs to do his business, but I feel like he may not bother and would probably just pick a random corner upstairs to use

Yes, Wick has 3 litter boxes in my place! All kind of spaced evenly so he’s not too far away from one. It’s important to have one nearby places your rabbit may sleep. Many times Wick wakes up needing to pee, but could get lazy to go find a box.

I’ve only got litter boxes in my living room but my house is tiny! Buttercup goes upstairs, Peanut doesn’t. Buttercup comes downstairs when she wants to eat and pee or poop If I had a bigger house I’d definitely have more litter boxes tho. She doesn’t stay upstairs for long anyway, she tends to just furiously dig at the bathroom floor, try and get into the bedroom and just generally be a bit cheeky. Then she gets bored lol. But she sometimes comes down to use the litter tray and then goes back up.

I talked about this with my bunnies’ foster mom yesterday. She believes that I really only need one, but I’d like to get at least two; even if the buns only use the one regularly, it’d be good to have a spare to swap out when it’s time to clean the first one. I’m getting ready to order a two-level habitat, and I’m fairly sure that the buns will only use the main litterbox placed in the corner on the bottom level (I’ll need to make sure acrylic guards are in place because I’ve been warned to expect a good deal of territory-marking activity as they settle in).

                Thanks everyone.

I think I will get one for the second level, just to be safe. He didn’t have any accidents on his little ‘adventure’ up there yesterday, but he was also very busy exploring. I’m going to try a covered box, just because it will probably have to go in our kitchen and I think that would be a little more sanitary.

@joea64 I have a 4 level condo for my bun with just one litter box on the bottom, it’s no issue at all. He uses it absolutely consistently.
