I’m not Ms Reads A Lot, but I’ll answer!

I love to read! My favorite genres are 19th century British lit (especially Dickens and Jane Austen), 20th century “classics” (some favorite authors are Maugham, Steinbeck, Capote), and a little bit of fantasy thrown in (Lord of the Rings mostly, but I’ve been reading Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and the Hunger Games recently). I also like short stories.

I don’t have an ereader – my job involves being on a computer for at least 9 hours a day, so the last thing I want to do is read a book on a screen. If I didn’t have such a computer based job I think I would probably get one. I do like collecting books though and love my library room in my house, so I don’t think I could ever completely give up real books.

I just started reading the third book in the Game of Thrones series.

What do you like to read, BT?

Oooh I’m a book junkie too!!! I like YA, (it’s embarrassing to admit that hah), Hunger Games, Vampire Diaries, Guardians of Ga’Hoole, I started Game of Thrones because I LOVED the tv series but I haven’t finished the first book, its a little meh. A couple of my favorite series is Stephen Kings The Dark Tower and Diana Gabaldon Outlander.

I have 2 ereaders, a Nook color (which I would never read on) and a Kindle keyboard which is exactly like looking at a book and I looveee!

Oooh, me too I like fantasy… Farseer trilogy, Sword of Truth, Xanth, etc. I just finished reading the Mode series.

Elroh, an e-reader is soooo much different from a computer screen. I am on the computer a lot too and I cannot STAND to read anything of length on a computer, but my e-reader is great. The e-ink effect is a lot like reading an actual page. And I don’t have to worry about rabbits nibbling all my books, or my bird perching on the top eating the top of the pages. lol And it’s so much lighter than a hard back book, makes it so much nicer to read new releases in bed (like the new Dance with Dragons book). I have over 100 books in my e-reader, so when I finish one and I still am not ready to go to bed, I don’t have to wake up the boyfriend to get a new one, which is also nice since he goes to bed at 9pm and I stay up until like midnight reading. And with project gutenberg, most the classics are FREE.

I love to read! I have an e-reader (After I made a post about it here my husband suprised me with one) and I LOVE it. It’s not like a computer screen at all. Way easier on the eyes, no backlight. I still like having real books and I’ve always wanted to have a “library” room in my house.

I’m reading “The Devil You Know” by Mike Carey and I’m enjoying it (Ghosts, Exorcism, etc). I enjoyed what I’ve read of the Sookie Stackhouse series (Tru Blood) by Charlaine Harris. I liked World War Z by Max Brooks. The Anita Blake series my Laurell K Hamilton has vampires, werewolves, werecats, wereswans, etc… I liked the first 9 books of the series but it sort of fell apart for me after that. The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher were enjoyable for me (as was the sadly short lived TV show). Kim Harrison’s Rachel Morgan series was okay but I found the main character annoying. There’s a series by Kristian Britain that I adore even though it takes forever for new books to come out.

I enjoy early Stephen King and classic Sherlock Holmes. I love books on philosphy and psychology. I found James Patterson’s Alex Cross books interesting for a while. I have a fondness for the Harry Potter books. I’ve been reading a lot more classics because they’re free on my e-reader. I read a lot of everything excluding westerns and romance novels.

I was actually about to make a post asking for Book Rec’s. I need more books to read!

Sticker, I’ve played around with a kindle and I agree that the screen experience is so much different (and better) than a computer. I think it’s just that I don’t want to look at any more technology after a day at work. Haha. I spend all day manufacturing computer chips while working on a computer, so I love coming home to something as low-tech as a book. I also looove having books – they’re the only thing I really collect. Having the space for a library in our new house was one of my must haves! I’ll have to post a picture now that it’s painted and we have the books all put away.

I used to travel for work almost every week and I think I would’ve purchased a kindle or iPad if I still worked there – sometimes I’d end up bringing multiple books for a week long trip and still have to buy something in the airport bookstore. Definitely could’ve used a kindle then!

I’m looking forward to watching the series one of these days! I got interested in the books when I heard about the show, though we don’t have HBO so I haven’t seen it yet.

I enjoyed the first book. The second went a little bit slower. I just started the third. They don’t draw me in as much as some books, but I think they’re a solid series. I also like that they’re long so I can’t finish them in a weekend and wonder what else to read.

This would be my daughter. Readreadread…it’s all she does. Fantasy and folk tale retellings mostly, with manga added in when she finds one she likes. Too bad she never attacked her schoolwork with similar gusto.
I envy you your library room El. I wish we had one to store all my daughter’s books. We’re crowded out of living space by their sheer volume. She also adores Austen. I could never get into that genre myself, I’m a sci-fi nut.
We did just get an iPad2 for my daughter and she just read her first ebook on it. Love that no real harm can come to the book and storage is nil, but she also prefers the textile comfort of bound media.

I used to enjoy reading, but my eyesight has deteriorated to the point that it’s no fun anymore.

I always have at least 2 books on the go. Historical Fiction is one of my passions.

I prefer the nook to the kindle, for many reasons. But yeah, a lot of people like real books still.. I like the ease, comfort and it’s better for the environment since it doesn’t take so much paper to make one, so win win for me! hehe

Are the Sookie books much different than the TV series?

haha El, I absorb books like its a food source, another reason I love my Kindle. I really like The Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld, The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Claire, The Weather Warden series and the Morganville Vampire series by Rachel Caine, the Artimus Fowl series by Eoin Colfer, Kim Harrisons “The Hollows”, right now I’m finishing Kathryn Lasky’s Guardian of Ga’hoole series.
Oh and The Passage was AMAZING, its long but really interesting.

I love fiction   james patterson    I forget the name of the author who writes the peter decker series.    His wife writes too.

Love the Rachel Vincent werecat books.  Don’t like her new soul banshee ones tho.    I love werewolf werecat vampire   detective

My friend her hubby got a nook color.  She loves the old classics.  I like Poe  thats about it for me on classics.

Some of the ereaders have wonderful e ink look to them.   I have nook color and it isn’t  bad at all.   I love it.  And you can adjust the brightness so you can read at nite like some other members here said.

                              Thats great.

I will never own an E-reader. I love books too much. I don’t think I’d enjoy a story as much without the feel of the book in my hand. And I see my books are a sort of collectible. I have a pretty big library.

Sticker – The book series is pretty different from the TV show. Some characters in the show weren’t in the books at all or survived a lot longer than they did in the books. Some of the character’s backgrounds and personalities are different. I like both versions for different reasons. I’m not caught up on the book series and some people I know say it’s gone down hill a bit. I liked what I read though.
