Hi guys, Peanut is going through his first major moult and has been for the paat few months. He even had moult lines! The moult lines seem to have disappeared now but i’m still getting quite a bit of fur off him during our evening groom sessions.

He is a black bunny with a light greyish undercoat. It looks like the root of his undercoat is black. He’s an oreo in bunny form I’m concerned because it seems that his undercoat is peeking through, maybe his black fur is thinning? It looks like it’s just a bit scruffy from him grooming but it isn’t (I’ve tried smoothing it back out lol) I’ve tried to look at his skin but his is black so it’s impossible to see anything. I can’t see any flakes or crusty bits so that’s good and he’s not itching. Could it just be moult?

I’ve got a photo but I am having issues uploading. Could I email a mod or something to insert it for me?

I don’t really understand the undercoat description (I don’t really understand the concept either honestly, haha. I just see a thick coat of fur), but it sounds like what Wick is going through right now?

Wick has majority black fur, and whenever he molts and gets the lines, the tips of the fur on the molt line is black, but the roots are grey, so when I groom Wick, I get a pile of usually grey fur, rather than black. He’s got a growing patch on his back right now that creates literally a dip when you pet him. Where I pluck, there’s black fur growing in.

Does that sound the same? Also, see my PM regarding e-mailing your picture.

Haha, sorry for being unclear. Basically, he is black all over but when I part his black fur, the fur underneath is grey with black roots (so, if he was a sandwich, his black fur is the bread and his grey is the filling LOL) What’s happening now is his black outer fur seems to be thinning and so more of his undercoat is showing through. I also realised that he does still have black moult lines (lighting was deceiving me!) They’ve travelled down to near his hind quarters now but the thinning part is directly on the centre of his back.

When I groom him, I mainly get his grey fur coming out which doesn’t really make sense to me. I’d have thought I’d get predominantly black fur off while grooming?

I hope this makes a bit more sense! Thank you for the PM, I’m just going to read it now

I think it’s the molt. My Yohio molted like that once, he had an apricot undercoat and when the top hairs thinned out, a lot more of the apricot showed. I have a picture of it somewhere, it was very pretty. But his normal fur grew out so the stunning apricot lasted a very short time.,

Bindi used to molt like that. Poor guy, used to look so rough and scruffy.

Elara’s hair is just insane!!! I can’t get over how much fur I get off her everyday! Like, what I think should be all the hair she has comes off every day. And then I think it’s done, for like a week, and it starts over again.
