I’ve been posting here a little bit but have never really introduced myself and my bunny, Monty, so thought I should correct that.
Monty is a 5 month old neutered dwarf lop – at least, “dwarf lop” is what we call his breed in the UK – I think in the US he’d be known as a Mini Lop (I think!). He’s got the most gorgeous colour I’ve ever seen in a rabbit, really vibrant broken tortoiseshell markings.
He lives with me and my boyfriend in a flat in southeast London. He mostly only goes in his cage at night and runs around during the day. He completely loves his cage, too, surprisingly – sometimes I catch him binkying in there (it makes one hell of a noise). We’re gradually working on making the entire flat bunnyproof so he can have LOTS of space.
Monty didn’t exactly have the most relaxed start in life – he came to us from a pet shop (which I know isn’t a great place to get bunnies, but they did seem to be kept in good conditions at least and the staff SEEMED to know their stuff). Problem was, he came to us with an abscess on his neck which the staff at the shop hadn’t noticed (I suspect the abscess was caused by a bite or scratch from another of the rabbits in the shop). Either way, I noticed a pretty nasty lump on his neck when petting him and had to take him to the emergency vet (as this was a weekend) to have it drained and cleaned. This also meant he spent his first weeks with us with a bald patch from being shaved at the vet, being caught twice a day and given yucky medicine, as well as me bothering him all the time trying to clean his wound. Luckily he healed really well and has had no health complaints since. He’s a very hardy little thing these days.
He can be a pretty boisterous little man – he chews shoes (on or off your feet) and tugs at clothes with his teeth when he wants attention. He jumps on your head if you try to take a nap when he wants to play and headbutts you if you don’t get him his food fast enough. He’s also really sweet and lovely, he grooms both me and my boyfriend (he even climbs up on my boyfriend and licks his face!), “nose-kisses” us, runs up to us when we come into the room he’s in (and adds in a binky if he hasn’t seen you in a bit), loves to be groomed and for some reason really loves it when either me or my boyfriend rub our faces against him. He gets super excited when you feed him in the morning, so excited that he runs in circles and then gets so disoriented that he can’t find the bowl you’ve put down on the floor.
He’s pretty much the best creature you could hope for…
