Oh, my!!! Poor Chacha…she tries to look so angry and vengeful but it just turns out looking adorable. I just want to smooch and hug her to make her feel better!
But if she’s like Olivia that will just peeve her off further!

I can almost see her shooting laser beams out of her eyes in those pics. lol
I cannot comprehend the cuteness! Especially that picutre of her on your shoulder!
I’m so coming to steal her!
ha! I love the photos of Chacha when she has those ears snapped backwards like they’re glued together. Most disapproving!

Is it okay if nail clipping isn’t what I was thinking when I read the title of this thread? ChaCha is very cute though! She has quite the little death stare!
Oh god, my buns always act like I’m trying to cut their legs off or something. And then afterwards, they act SOOOO RELIEVED: “I SURVIVED! I SURVIVED!”
My first bun, who looked just like the adorable Chacha, acted like such a martyr: “sigh . . . well . . . okay . . . if you must cut off my leg . . . go ahead . . . I’ll survive somehow, I’m sure . . . I mean, I’ve got 3 other legs . . . so feel free to take this one . . . “

I was thinking something different too. LOL Chacha bun is just too cute!
It is not so bad it you trance them first. I just discovered that yesterday. Last time my husband and I worked together on her nails before her vet visit, and both of us got peed on.

That was the point! WELL.. I don’t need to say anything
but for Miss Chacha, her monthly is.. nail trimmings ![]()
Lagomorpic, do you like the Rabbids? ![]()
I do trance her, in order to trim those back nails. I’m pretty fast now, so it is done within a minute, depending on how she wants to cooperate with me ![]()
I just put her on my lap when I do her front paws.
She isn’t shedding right now
I suppose that is a good thing ![]()
I watched Monkeybun trance Smudgebun after her spay – so I decided to be brave and learn how to do Chacha’s nails myself. I used to have a friend help me, but I wanted to do it on my own.
Smudge is more accommodating than most buns I know though ![]()
I seem to remember reading somewhere (don’t remember where so the info could’ve been crap) that trancing isn’t good for bunnies? How true is this?
I actually read that it was more a defense mechanism than anything else, that the bunny isn’t actually going into any kind of trance but “playing dead” because they feel stressed or scared.
I have no idea which is true, especially since I’ve never been able to get mine to do it and I gave up years ago.
I trimmed Finnens nails for the first time today he did great I used a blanket to keep him still and covered his eyes it really helped! Now I just have to tackle Emily! :/ she will be difficult & will be mad at me for days I’m sure!

Well . . . I probably like that pic as a profile pic better than anything Rabbid . . . ![]()

Mine fake it. LOL Seriously. Eddie was the worst. His head would go back and everything but if I just waited a few seconds, BAM! His eyes would open and he’d start kicking. Lolli’s much more girly about it, I guess. She does fight but not as much as Eddie and eventually she just gives up and deals with it. lol
I don’t “trance” my buns, either, and I found the article that I had read explaining it:
I don’t do it for fun. It is only for nail trimming purposes. I hope I made myself clear ![]()

You did! I was just curious about it. We did it to the bunnies we had when I was growing up, solely for nail trims. Haven’t tried it with Oreo yet, I just have the vet do her nails ![]()
Hahah
I see!
I got chacha’s nails clipped for the first time at a vet that she previously went to.. and the vet tech.. clipped her quick!!!!
in the times that i’ve done her nails, I have never clipped the quick.
Chacha bun 😀
Huckles doesn’t let me trance her. She won’t submit to me in any way. When I took her to the vet earlier this week, the vet came out and said through clenched teeth “She is a very strong willed bunny, isnt she?” If Huckles were a kid, she would be that one in the store that is screaming so loud you can hear it across the store!!!
When I finally decide to risk my life and trim her nails, it takes putting her in a bunny burrito and wearing a sweatshirt, the burrito to confine her, the sweatshirt to soften the bites and scratches. Last time I made the mistake of holding her head near my chest… she turned her head and started chomping. I screamed!!!
By the time the mutual abuse is over, her nails are trimmed, I need band-aids, and neither of us will talk to the other for at least an hour.
What always gets me though is that she forgives my sadistic behavior and I get the longest love sessions from her afterwards.
Bunnies, crazy critters!
Chacha is strong willed too. I have to put the towel over her face so she does not wiggle around.
My vet put Chacha in a very nice burrito and handed me back to her (after she had xrays).. and she didn’t move. I was so amazed o_O So I held her in my arms and then put her down and let her mess around on the vet table while we waited for the results.
Ah, have you tried bribing her with treats? ![]()
BAHAH! Treats? Are you kidding… apparently Huckleberry was a crack addict in another life, she goes after treats like its the first taste of food she has had in a month! I doubt trying to bribe her with treats would get her to stay still for any time at all. She usually just goes insane.

I wasn’t trying to imply you did it for fun at all! ![]()
I just don’t want to put my buns in a situation where they think they’re about to be killed by a predator. I think a lot of people don’t know that that’s what “trancing” is.

Oreo is like this too! No matter how well I wrap the bunny burrito at home, she’s still supper wiggly. Covering her eyes doesn’t even work anymore, she used to stay super still when she couldn’t see but now she’s figured out that she can still move even when she can’t see
But at the vet, when he wraps her up she just sits there like the most obedient bunny ever! Yesterday he had her wrapped lightly and she just sat there on the table all wrapped up while he and I had a whole conversation…didn’t even attempt to move. Gah I was so jealous ![]()
We only trance Momo to do her nails. I figure it is better to go that route, than to risk having her kicking out so hard she injures us or herself. Before I started trancing her to do her nails, she would pee on us (and that stuff is bunny napalm!) and kick like mad. We both got badly scratched and I was so afraid I was going to take her quicks off! This way may add some short term stress, but it’s much calmer and comes with a lower risk of injury to us or rabbit.
Oh and I think they are so cute when wrapped in a bunny burrito! We saw this for the first time at the vet. My husband and I just wanted to take her home like that and snuggle her against her will. ![]()

I agree! The bunny burrito is the most adorable thing ever!!
I always try to give Oreo a few extra snuggles/kisses when she’s wrapped up like that. I tell myself it’s to help calm her down but really, I think I just can’t help myself ![]()
Lagomorphic, you are fine, no problem
I can easily trim Chacha’s front nails by not having her in trance. She will wiggle around, so I have to steady her on my lap.
Lani, I snuggled Chacha up too. She is too cute for her own good
Did Oreo get mad after being taken out from the burrito? ![]()
Yes, I always get foot flicks or thumps when she escapes the bunny burrito ![]()

Oh god, my buns always act like I’m trying to cut their legs off or something. And then afterwards, they act SOOOO RELIEVED: “I SURVIVED! I SURVIVED!”
I cut the buns’ nails this morning, and I realized I forgot a part of their performance . . .
Afterwards, they’re also super lovey-dovey and keep hanging around and coming up to me for pets. It’s almost like they’re saying “sorry we were being a little bratty earlier.” But I know that’s anthropomophizing! I do give them lots of loving and pets while I’m doing their nails, so maybe they just want even more afterwards?? Or maybe they’re thanking me for not cutting off their legs? Who knows . . . ![]()
I don’t have any luck with the burrito either, at least not to clip nails. Once I go to trying to get a foot out, the whole bunny is gone!
I had two girls, Hershey and Lola who would savage your hand/arm if you dared put them in reach so I had my son hold them against his chest so I could clip.
It became such a habit, even after I lost those two that it was only when my son moved out that I realized I could trim the rest of the buns while they sat on my lap or on the table and not lose a finger. I cradle them in one arm and hold one foot out at a time and while Pringles will snort, bark and growl like crazy she doesn’t bite and the others are even easier. Toby tries to gnaw my hand like he’s eating corn on the cob, but with his teeth it just tickles ;-) DCharlie’s is the funniest, he takes great interest in watching what I’m doing with his foot to the point that I can’t see what I’m doing for his big bat ears in the way.
Here’s the look I always got from the lovely Lola when she saw the clippers. (and she could still reach around and get Michael sometimes) Until she lost the weight, she could also draw her head and legs in like a turtle til she was like a wrinkly white blob.

I see a disapproving rabbit.
i trimmed peepi’s nails today. other than getting peed on twice and one escape attempt, he was a perfect gentleman! he even accepted craisens while i was still holding him!
