Hello, 2 of my buns have been molting like crazy since June. They are both long haired. I was wondering if I should provide something in their diet to help them grow their fur back nicely? Do they need more protein during that time? If so, what should I give them?

They have hay available at all times, they get veggies once a day and pellets as treats.

I haven’t tried it, but some people recommend giving a few sunflower seeds a day to help speed up molts. My guess would be this works for many buns, but you want to be careful if one of your rabbits has a sensitive tum. You could check with your vet to see if they think it would be ok

Side note, I am also buried in a pile of bunny fur so I feel your pain! And mine are short haired…

Our member Ellie from the Netherlands was recommended sunflower seeds by her vet for her heavily molting little Breintje. I’ve started giving my heavily molting Bam sunflower seeds. Just a few per day. It has protein and vitamin E. All is fair in love and molting.

This year’s spring/summer molt seems to be extra terrible for many bun owners. There’s been at least 2 threads about this year’s molt. Here’s the most recent:

If you try the sunflower seeds, feed as little as possible. Theyre very fattening for rabbits so if you use them, they should be fed sparsely as treats

Also going through a moult blizzard. Three bunnies moulting all at once, haha Brushing everyone an hour a day and vacuuming the living room directly after has been part of my routine for atleast a month.
