Hey guys! I am new and have read almost all related to this, but haven’t seen an answer. I’m hoping to get one! So I have a 12 week old Holland Lop names Buns! Somewhere along the line he got fur mites. Dandruff, scaly, patchy spots pretty much all over his back. He had his first dose of Revolution and then 2 weeks later his second dose. Today has been 2 weeks and 5 days of entire treatment process. My question. How long does it take for the flakes and scales to go away? They still seem like caked up skin still pretty much all over. There’s no redness on his body, just the flakes and scales.

That sounds like a bad infestation for such a young rabbit. I would have thought you would have seen some improvement by now.
Perhaps it is some type of fungal infection rather then fur mite? Or a lesser known type of mite?

I agree. I’ve only had him a month and admit I didn’t know what to look for until I just searched why he would have dandruff. Should I just keep with the Revolution? He has seen a vet. They did a skin scraping and tape test. He didn’t see anything. I also know that it doesn’t matter and that it is hard to find.
Honestly I am itchy too. I get random red bites on my arms throughout the day. I seem to be the only one though. My husband and daughter are both here. I clean ridiculously everyday. Clean his cage with vinegar and water mixture, change his litter bedding, vacuum all floors, which is hardwood, and the couch. I have put up all rugs and spray a flea and tick repellent every other day on the couch and upstairs floor because it is carpet. Also change our bed sheets and stuff every 2-3 days. He has pretty much nothing anymore. I took all his toys and threw away cardboard and wood. He literally has a litter pan, water bowl, and plastic hidehouse in his cage, but I do still let him out to roam. He doesn’t go far. Is it possible that it’s just not healing yet?
I’m trying to add a picture.

Mites shouldn’t affect you, to be honest, so I’m suspecting something else as well. Have you taken him to see a rabbit savvy vet?

I did take him to the vet. He did a tape and scrape test, and said he didn’t see anything. Some people have told me I could get irritation from the mites if they bite. I also could just be psyching myself out.

Hi, I’m sorry you’re going through this. Did you take him to a regular vet or a savvy rabbit vet as q8bunny asked? It can really differ how treatment is administered to the bun. You need to make sure they are registered as an exotic vet so the best treatment can be done. Have you also looked into going to other rabbit savvy vets for their exam on him to see what they think is going on?
