i’m having one of those days when i have such an ache for my little bunny. cosie was my first rabbit. (actually, she was my first pet.) she was beautiful and curious and gentle. she was amazing with people, especially children. she definitely could have been a therapy bunny. she would have been ten in march, but i had to put her down last august.
here’s one of my favorite pics of her. it always makes me smile. (no, i didn’t give her the whole banana…just a photo op) ![]()

here’s her pic with the vet and i on the vet’s website.

here’s a pic my mom took of cosie and i snuggling on her last night.

Aww… My first bunny looked so similar to Cosie. She seems like a very sweet rabbit, who was obviously loved very much.
Oh you have me tearing up…
It’s amazing the connection we can have to animals. The full love we can feel. It’s a privilege to have them in our lives. But as we know, love can be painful at times too. I suppose days like these help remind just how deeply they are loved – to the full measure. Perhaps it’s these emotions that have you looking again at photos or remembering something that you hadn’t for some time. Something that connects again to the bunny she was and helps you move past the hurt.
I’ve been thinking that when you feel particularly emotional is when they’ve come near. Not everyone believes in spirit but it helps me. They come near and it taps into your heart.
Maybe Cosie is reminding you that she is “top bunny”, not Callie ;o). Rabbits are cheeky like that!
Please do share more about Cosie if it helps you. I’d love to know more about her. That last pic of you cuddling her is precious.
I know how hard it is to have those “bad days”. I miss my Stormy (whom I lost in September) everyday but there are days that are worse than others. Yesterday, I bought a little bag of grey pompoms for crafts and the colour reminds me of Storm so I was sad and missing him a lot last night.
Cosie was beautiful. I’m sure she’s a beautiful little angel now.
I like to think that we are never truly parted from our babies. They are just in a different state. There is much more to life than just the physical state. I often dream of Stormy and I truly believe when we dream of Bridge pets, they are visiting us. When we are asleep we are more open to receiving messages and visits from spirits.
She was a gorgeous bun!
That last pic of you cuddling her is my favorite. You guys obviously shared a very great bond. <3
thanks all.
about a week after cosie passed, i had a dream about her. in the dream i kept wishing for just one more day with her. somehow i got my wish, and i was sitting in the back of someone’s car holding her. i could see that she was in a lot of pain, and realized that it was best to let her go. that dream made me feel more settled about my decision to put her down.
this is just one example of her amazingness. this was in 2010, when my cousin was just starting to teethe, so there were no teeth yet! look at my cosie letting ally do whatever she wanted. cosie could have very easily hopped away, but she stayed with ally.

That is beyond sweet!!! So lucky you captured it in a pic too.
What wonderful pictures. It is hard to lose our first bunny no matter how much we love the others.
I think she wants you to remember her as she was, not in pain and suffering, and helped you know that in your dream. She will always love you, too.
Oh my goodness! I am in tears over here! After seeing your picture cuddling cosie on your last night together I could not imagine how you were feeling. I am so sorry for your loss. I have only had a rabbit for a few months now and I freaked out the first time he had hiccups because I did not know what they were! I even cried! I cannot imagine 9 years and seeing your baby in pain. You are a very strong woman and it was a decision you had to make that was best four cosie. I am so thankful that there is a site like be where you as we’ll as the rest of us can receive the support and understanding we need through the tough times, as well as the silly times with our bunnies. Stay as strong as you are and know that you greatly assisted your bunny by removing her from suffering. She thanks you by visiting you in your dreams by letting you she is okay and she loves u![]()
That picture is beyond sweet. She was truly a little gem.
Oh wow, that picture is a true testament to what a loving and patient bun she must have been. So glad you got that picture, it really is an amazing picture!
Binky Free, Cosie girl <3
You will always remember Cosie, even years down the road. My first rabbit has been gone for over 8 years now and to this day I still have dreams about her. My dreams now consist of her and my two current bunnies playing together. Since my first bunny’s passing, I created a holiday out of her birthday and every year I bake a carrot cake, even now when I have two new bunnies. (If she were still alive she would be 20 this year!). I suggest you get those pictures of you and cosie printed and framed and hang on your wall. Even in the future when you have new pets, still keep them up and you’ll always remember your Cosie. I think there is something special about a first pet…
she was an amazing little bunny, that’s for sure. i actually have like fifty pictures of cosie’s forst meeting with ally, but i spared you all!
i also used to bring cosie to work each year around easter. i worked with disabled kids…down syndrome, autism, behavioral issues…and she was incredible with them. she stayed still in the middle of a circle full of loud children and let them take turns petting her. she put up with the occasional too-rough massage. she let them sit her in their laps. she was just awesome.
lwayne, i have pictures of cosie EVERYWHERE!!
