Mini lop and grooming

My mini lop, Bindy Loo, is noticibly shedding. Her house box is full of hair and she has had a couple of  "pearl necklace poops".

When I go to groom her every night though nothing comes off. Sometimes I can pick bits off with my fingers but no brushes seem to work with her fur type. It’s med long and a bit coarse. My rex I brush with a plastic baby comb and brush but it doesnt work on Bindi (or my former lop). I tried a rabbit slicker brush but the metal bristles are too ruff on her and it doesnt seem to do much anyway, a metal cat comb and even a plastic slicker I borrowed from my horse. How do you groom this type of fur?

Also I have a severe paranoa of the dreaded "fur blockage". Any tips on avoiding this? I feed them fresh pineapple a couple of times a week and dried papaya.

I’m pretty sure you can get this at any pet store in the cat section.  You should dampen it with water first.  You go against the way the fur grows to help loosen up the fur.  The boardmember who is our master groomer loves it.  It’s worth giving a try to see if it works for you.

Alot of my rabbits I end up "plucking" the fur on so many of my rabbits too.  They hate it but it does work.  You can also dampen your hands and run it along the rabbit and pick up lots of fur too.

hay and fresh water are also important during a heavy shed. my friend has good luck wearing household cleaning kids of gloves and stroking her bunnies, the fur seems to stick to the gloves. I know binkybunny really likes the hairbuster kind. I use the shedender, which I think is just ok.

I am a big fan of the hair buster. Rucy loves to be brushed with it. Bailey tolerates it if I am extra careful, and Jack, well Jack HATES to be brushed with anything, so sometimes i have to force it. The thing with the hair buster is it does really take out a lot of loose hair, but you do have to be careful to not pull too hard. Kind of like when you are brushing your hair and if you come to a tangle, you hold your the part of your hair with your hand to prevent it from pulling while you brush – so that’s what you sometimes have to do with the hair buster comb.

No brushes work on my Lilly either.. I just hold her for a while and pick the hair off.. or I scratch her (not hard!!) and she seems to enjoy that while I get her hair off!
