I’m so very bad.
An email was sent out to the rabbit advocates today, one of the links in it was about a hoarding situation in Salem Oregon that still has 80+ buns in need of homes or fostering…
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I sent an email. WITH hubby’s permission of course ![]()
So I may be fostering a bun or pair of buns in the near future >.>
aww that is so nice!
AWWWWWWWWW!!!!!
I knew you would do something like that
Must post photos of the babies!
Ha….so they call it “fostering” these days….
Don’t know for sure if they will accept us, as we ARE a bit away from them. But with that many buns needing help.. hopefully we’ll be accepted. Hubby says he’d be willing to foster a mama with babies if needed
…I just need to clean the apartment now… >.>
Well that’s exciting. I wanted to consider it but you know I would end up adopting them so it wouldn’t be a great idea for me lol

That is so exciting! So glad to hear it. Oh, lucky little buns. So, how does it work, then? You foster the bunnies, and then the shelter finds potential homes for them and these people come to visit you and the bunnies, or you bring the bunny into the shelter now and then if someone has asked to see it?
I kind of hope you get to foster a bunny mum with a litter just so I can look at all the pictures!

Hehe, me too. To me fostering equals adopting. Good luck, MB ![]()
People would come to our place to look at the buns, which wouldn’t be bad as I’m always home anyway. I do hope they accept us, would be tons of fun!
That is great. Especially because people get to see then how you can have bunnies in your home, how they are litter trained and all. Even if they don’t pick out your foster bunnies, they still learn a lot.
I keep my fingers crossed that you and your husband are accepted!
Awww, that would be awesome! I would love to foster.
Can’t wait to see pics.
Aw, that’s great! How’s your bonding going with your two tho? I hope that doesn’t upset the process!
I think it’s great too but I would be concerned as well about how it’s going to upset the bonding and even a newer bond when they do bond. Something to think about before you make a commitment like this :~)
Just make sure if the foster isn’t fixed that you don’t let them run around the same area as yours because we did that once and Gracie marked for 2 months!
Good luck! I wish I could foster again…..but we’d probably end up adopting AGAIN! lol!
If we do foster, they will be in a different room our 2 don’t go in at all, so it shouldn’t be too bad.
when will you know when if you can foster?
*poke* Monkey, i am going to play negative Nelly for you. You are allowed to hate me. I say don’t do it. Not now. I know you make a great foster home but don’t do it now. cement your two first. If you bring in these new bunnies you will inadvertently have their scent on you and set Moosie off.
I have to agree with Petzy, as much as I think you guys would be a great foster home, it could totally set you back in bonding. After seeing how volatile a bond can be in the first few weeks, I wouldn’t bring a new bun into my house for at least a month or two after cementing. I would be so sad for you if you had them together and had to split them back up again.
Well, right now, if its between a bun being fostered, or the bun going to shelter where they euthanize… I’d have to go with the fostering. It may set back bonding, but I’d rather save the bun’s life.
In the mean time, I’ll keep up with the bonding, and I have to clean out the room the bun would be in anyway, and I have yet to hear back from the rescue. So it’s still up in the air.
I think Petzy made a really good point, but I understand exactly where you are coming from and when you put it like that, I would go with the fostering as well.
You are such a caring person!
I also think Petzy’s warnings/cautions are right on, but it sounds like you are okay with the whatever negative set backs it may bring to help the rescue situation and save a bunny.
Keep us updated!
i think if it is to save a bunnies life i would do it.
I agree with you MonkeyBun! If the bunny is going to be put down you should foster. As long as your bunnies aren’t in any physical danger from a new bunny, you could save a sweet little life!
any news of fostering?
No response yet from them ![]()
Rescue organizations can take a bit to respond b/c they are most likely run by volunteers, which means people like u and me who have full time jobs, families and our own animals to care for on top of the homelss ones.
I was excited/impaitent to get my first foster and wondered “when are they bringing me my foster?” lol… Now years later I’m here asking “when is my foster getting adopted?” LOL :p
But that’s what I wanted to comment on, sometimes fosters don’t get adopted, even ever.
I said yes to 3 baby bunnies that needed foster care, my thought was “they are babies, people want babies, they will get adopted quickly.” Those ‘babies’ are almsot 10lbs now and 3 years old, one passed away though.
So though it is GREAT to foster and help a homeless pet in need (I reccomend it!), we all need to look at the big picture, and look at it as almost adopting them.
Honestly, if i had thought I would have Spencer & Suzy for their entire lives, I wouldn’t have taken them in, I never wanted a home with so many bunnies. But I love them, and i would not let them go to a shelter now, or ‘just anyone’ it would have to be THE perfect family.
I just had to mention that, as i have seem it many times foster animals coming back because people didn’t want them that long, or situations changed. Not to say they can’t come back or anything, just the less moving the better for a bunny.
Oh, as for sputeres as someone had mentioned, most shelters sputer before an animal goes to a foster or home and that is all paid for any everything.
