Megacolon Poop

This month on June 6th, my 11mo old, white dwarf lionhead bunny (3lbs), Babi got neutered. After surgery, it took him about 5-6 days to recover. Anyway, so it’s been more than a week since surgery, and Babi has been eating lots of Timothy hay, a few leafy veggies (cilantro, mint, basil) and 1/4 cup of pellets (Science Selective Rabbit Pellets). In addition to that, Babi has been ordered by the vet to drink 1mL of vitamin C and 0.45mL of Flax Seef Oil daily due to a small bald patch on his fur that may have been due to self-barbering. Other than that, Babi had been extremely playful and energetic and constantly binkies around the house. However, since his surgery, I noticed a massive change in his fecal pellets. They used to be small, harder, round, dark brown pellets. Now they are nearly twice the size, lighter in color and a bit more squishier. As in, I can easily break it apart with my fingers. What worries me is that they’re huge and egg-shaped. It’s been this way since since he recovered from surgery, so it’s been a bit more than a week of daily massive poops.

I’m extremely worried. It’s 2am here, so I can’t exactly go to my vet, but I will definitely call tomorrow to see if they can take us in for a check up. I always check his tummy daily, and he always have a normal, soft belly. He showed no signs of pain ever. He has just been eating a lot more gay than usual, and has been drinking lots of water.

I may not be able to respond immediately right now since I’m very tired, but I would appreciate a bit of advice and/or feedback.

Those aren’t megacolon poops and he’s not the right coloring for a megacolon rabbit. I wouldn’t worry as long as he’s pooping and happy.

Just looks like big healthy poops. Not round but certainly the right colour and density.

Thank you so much for your answers! I know I maybe overreacting a bit, but the photos of the fecal pellets in the album are a bit darker than they are in natural lighting. Here they are without flash. They’re more of a lighter brownish green color.

Only bunny parents would understand the amount of rabbit poop pics I’ve taken since I got him. Babi was looking at me weird when I kept digging through his litter box for better photos of his poop. He just seems way too jolly and energetic to have something wrong with him, and he’s been eating way more hay than ever since he got neutered.

Poop watching is a great habit to have when you have a bunny. :p

I think his increased hay intake is responsible for the change you’re seeing. They look like big healthy hay poops.

Thank you! I’m so relieved now And yes I’m so happy he is recovering better than expected from the surgery because I was an anxious mess while he was in the hospital.
