Hi there! I recently joined your forum and just wanted to introduce you to my girl, Jubilee. Me and my boyfriend have raised Jubilee since she was 6 weeks old. Her mother had been abandoned and was found by a caring family who took her in. To their surprise, she was pregnant! The rabbit ended up having 7 kittens, all of them spotted beige or grey except for Jubilee, who was all white. I remember carrying her in a little shoebox as a man stopped me and said that she must be good luck!
Jubilee is now 3 years old and not yet spayed. We just experienced our first health scare with a nasty urinary infection that was initially what brought me to this site. She passed a few blood clots that were very concerning, especially for an unsprayed doe! A urinalysis report verified that it was a bacterial infection and we’re finishing up her antibiotics this week. I am so thankful she is ok! She has always been a tough little girl so I was very worried when I suspected she was not feeling well. Thankfully she has a doctor who is both knowledgeable and truly cares. I used this forum as one of many references in my own research for understanding, so a BIG thank you goes out to you!!
While she may not have fireworks spitting from her paws (lame X-Men reference ) Jubilee definitely is a firecracker! She has been to quite a few places in her little lifetime. Come to think of it she’s been everywhere I can remember! When she was younger she loved sitting on my shoulders and snuggling in my hair. We would take her with us on family trips and around town as she never minded the car ride– as long as she could sit on your lap! Her favorite place by far was inside the glove box, of all places. We would leave it open and full of fluffy napkins and she would jump in and nap! Jubilee has always been a part of us and I could never let her out of my sight. We took her on our first camping trip to Pismo Beach, where she experienced binkying in the sand… And even went to Arizona with us while visiting family. As she’s grown and we’ve settled down I prefer not to stress her so much, and we’ve made a permanent fortress that she’s gotten quite used to. Her roadtrippin’ days are now pretty few and far between, either only to grandma’s house or the vet.
We currently live in a one bedroom apartment complex in Simi Valley, California and for the first year or so we labored with different fences, playpens, and housing areas to accommodate her with using the space we have. After many trials we finally established a permanent playpen/exercise area for her on our patio, which is fully enclosed from the outdoors by a thick wooden fence and our roof. It opens into our living area where she has access to play with us and her big brother, our dog Turbo. I should mention that Turbo helped us raise her when she was a baby, cleaning her ears and eyes (she would have a total cowlick for days ) and teaching her how to play tag. Turbo is a weathered boy himself, having been diagnosed with a brain tumor this year… But he still loves to play tag with Jubilee anytime he can. They both truly love each other, and Jubes enjoys fooling him into thinking he can catch her! Animals are so remarkable together, and Turbo is a real angel.
I feel that throughout the years as I’ve learned and made mistakes, there’s still so much to know about caring for rabbits. I am not a first time owner, but I’ve never raised a rabbit on my own before Jubilee. We plan on having Jubes spayed as soon as she completes her antibiotics, and hopefully my dreams will come true and she can have a bunny friend in the future. I joined this forum to make some friends that I can learn from and share experiences with. Advice regarding spaying a rabbit and what to expect afterwards would be awesome! As far as her behavior is concerned, she has always been a very playful, sweet, and gentle rabbit. She will lick me and anyone who steps into her world for what seems like hours!
Anywho, thanks for reading about our buns, Jubilee! Sorry the intro is as long as a college paper. Hope to see you all around. ~ Alexis
