Good afternoon, everyone!
My name is Katie and I’m brand new to raising bunnies. My daughter has been asking for bunnies for over two years now and I finally relented – and I’m so glad I did!
I adopted Cinnamon and Basil from a shelter after 200+ bunnies were seized from a single residence in an animal hoarding situation. I brought Cinnamon and another bunny home a week and a half ago and sadly, the other bunny passed away on day 3. It was very young and apparently not in good health, even though it showed no signs of distress or illness until the morning it passed
I went back and adopted Basil so Cinnamon could have a companion and so far, so good.
This is Cinnamon. I have no idea how old he is because everything from the adoption paperwork, his listing information, shelter volunteer opinions and staff opinions had him as anywhere from 4 weeks to 3 months old. I’m pretty sure he’s 5-6 weeks old and a Palomino. (I say “he” loosely because he’s too young to tell definitively.
He’s very mellow and he loves to be pet. He never misses a chance to lick and reciprocate the grooming. He’s very comfortable here and began flopping on his second day home.
This is Basil. Now when I say I have no idea how old she is, I really have no idea! Her paperwork has her listed as being 4 weeks old and although she is much smaller than Cinnamon she is much more coordinated. I don’t know if it matters but she can (and will) hop 18″ off the ground out of her playpen, run over slippery hard floor without a problem, do full binkirs and explore bravely. As for her breed, I’m just as clueless. I thought she was a standard chinchilla but her face and body shape suggest she may be a dwarf mix. What do you think?
She is very high energy compared to Cinnamon but she too loves pets and she flops whenever, wherever.
