A few weeks ago, someone from my church walked up to me after the service looking very upset. She said her husband was going to let their bunny “free” outside if they didn’t find a new home for her. She destroyed many cords in their house and had recently destroyed her husbands new work computer cord, She asked if I would take her. I kindly told her I didn’t think I could have another rabbit but I would be happy to foster her until I found her a new home. They decided to keep her another week to see if things got better. The girl (the rabbit was her daughters) got bit by the rabbit and finally said she wanted to get rid of her so on Tuesday morning they brought her over. They really wanted me to keep her, and kind of assumed I was going to even after many times I told her I didn’t think I could. So right now we are playing it day by day and just seeing what happens. If she bonds with my rabbits she will probably stay.
Here is some info on her:
Name: Chaco pronounced like Taco (the past owners always just called her Bun Bun though)
Age: 1 1/2
Breed: Dwarf
Gender: Female/spayed
Ok. Enough blabbing! I know you are dying to see some pictures! She is super active so most of them are blurry. I took them from my phone so they aren’t the best quality.
Here is Chaco!
This picture pretty much sums up her personality. She has only been here a little over 24 hours but she is already such a little Diva! She has claimed every thing in her pen as her (yes, she has chinned me too! :p ) and she boxes your hand when you put it by her (I am hoping that behavior goes away).
Here is her current set up. It is about a 5’x7′ pen with a 2’x3′ Dog kennel inside. I plan to get a bigger cage for her but until then the dog crate will have to do. I plan on leaving a small pen attached at night. i can’t leave the whole pen up as we have 3 very nosy cats who Chaco is terrified of and they can (and have) jumped into the pen.
Another angle
Here is her crate, I don’t think she has ever drank from a water dish in her life but ever since I put one in their she hasn’t touched her water bottle! Yay! I hate bottles! I was hoping it would be an easy switch. The litter box was under the hay rack until she decided to pee in the other corner, so I moved the box. Not sure exactly where she wants it yet. Once I figure it out, I will put the hay rack above the box.
Over all I think everything is going good. I have been with her all day and I am sitting in her pen now. I am hoping she stops the annoying boxing behavior once she knows I am safe. The poor girl hasn’t ever had her nails trimmed and her claws are SUPER long. If you look closely you can probably see them in the second picture. She keeps holding her front paws up. I think it is because of her nails and it hurts to walk on the. We plan on clipping them tonight. She has finally started eating this morning! Not a ton, but enough to make me happy. Her poops are TINEY and she is leaving cecotropes on the floor. I am not sure if the small poops are because she is a dwarf or because of an unbalanced diet. I am currently slowly introducing a better diet. Her current pellets have corn inside of them. YUCK! Also she peed in one side of her food dish (that didn’t have any pellets in it) and her pee looked cloudy. Also when she peed on the floor it looked strange. Kind of whitish and foamy. Is that normal?
Anyways, Not sure if anyone read this extremely long post! haha! I will keep you updated on how she is!
