My two boy rabbits, bucks, are going to be getting fixed soon! (this coming Friday) I would like to know if I need to separate them after surgery. They are brothers at birth and are bonded pretty well, I’d say. Laevant is smaller and more submissive than his brother, Kinder. Kinder is more hormonal and sprays and marks more, while Laevant follows his lead. They like to cuddle sometimes, but when it’s hot they spend their times separately in a corner. If they are supposed to be separated after surgery, I have NIC grids that I can use to build another cage. The cages will both be fairly small, with the essentials. I have read the healing process can take up to ten to twelve days, will they be able to stretch out of their cage and exercise for a reasonable amount of time? Would they be able to interact with each other while exercising?

After being neutered they’ll need to most likely be re-bonded, so a month after being neutered you should begin pre-bonding and then go into bonding sessions. Shouldnt take super long, especially if they were bonded before.

Separate enclosures would be best in my opinion, but i do recommend putting them next to each other to lessen the risk of unbonding. Although our boy bun spent almost all of the month he was separated from our female after her spay, but the last two days where he stopped going by her cage and they completely unbonded. But rebonded quickly, they’re a really rare case of “love at first sight”.
