My bun has had GI stasis 5 or 6 times this year. She usually gets over it quickly, after 12 or so hours. I gave her critical care. More recently I have given her simethicone as well as it seems that she had painful gas. I am not really sure what is causing it.

This time she hasn’t eaten for 48 hours except for the cc and a couple of treats. She was eating some cardboard though and seemed pretty normal, except not moving around as much and with very cold ears.

I also have noticed she had a lump in her cheek/neck under the ear so I’m worried about tooth issues.

I took her to the vet and they are monitoring and examining her now. Just wondered if anyone had any other insights…

          Hi there

I hope your girl is back to normal soon!

I do agree, it’s very likely some tooth issues… Especially with her going into stasis that frequently.

Maybe an X-ray will tell more, once she is stable. Is the lump down under the lower jaw, near the end? Or higher, under the ear.

I’ve had 2 rabbits develop abscesses, one on lower jaw, and one under the ear. They had to have them surgically opened, cleaned out as best possible, then left open so it could be flushed out daily. I packed the wound in between the flushes. It does eventually close.

Did she eat cardboard before the other episodes of stasis?

Hi Jerseygirl, thanks for your reply! No callback from the vet yet.

The lump is low, although it is most noticable when feeling near her ear I think it’s just because the fur is very fluffy there. She does not seem to be in any pain touching anywhere near it. I cut some of the fur back and I got to a little papule looking thing. Not like a scab, more like a wart. But the lump extends into the cheek and neck, about the size of an unpopped popcorn kernel and firm.

I will call them in a minute and ask about an x-ray. The vet closes soon (it’s friday night here) and isn’t open during the weekend.

Both my bunnies have free access to hay, but recently I went away for a week and they began to chew the sofa and windowsills. I gave them a lot of cardboard boxes and they are currently obsessed with eating them instead. They seem to be eating less hay though. I will give some them apple tree tonight (something they love!)

They said that the lump was ‘just nothing’ and that I should really push the hay.

They gave her more critical care and motility drug. She ate some lettuce. She has been licking her under carriage a lot. She goes on for about 10 mins, no cecal pellets. She looks clean down there but the fur looks wet, maybe from all the licking. She hasn’t pooped yet and the vet mentioned she didn’t poop while there but the buns never poop during that time of day so I’m not worried about that.

One weird thing is though she appears to have a scaly scab on her ear now, I don’t know what that is. I’ll try to post a pic later of that and her lump. Very weird
