Since I brought AL home he took quickly to the litter box which is great.  However, he pees and poops a lot and I need to change the litter every day since he soaks through his yesterday’s news.  I have a jumbo corner box.  He has two boxes, one in his pen and one in his cage and he uses the jumbo one way more so I can get away with changing his other one every other day.  I have read that some people can change theirs less often but AL drinks a ton, eats a ton and pees/poops a ton.  Everything seems normal.  I called the vet a few weeks ago since he just started eating and drinking a lot more but she suggested a growth spurt. I also think that maybe he was getting comfortable enough to eat and drink more since the pet store weren’t feeding him that well?  I have had him for about 6 weeks and he started eating drinking a lot more about 3 weeks ago.  Mostly his poops are a nice size, better the more greens he gets.  Every now and again there will be a few small pellets but nothing that has concerned me.  Just want to make sure this is normal or if a vet visit is in order.

        Thanks!

What you’re describing doesn’t sound like anything unusual. What is this corner box? Perhaps it is just not big enough. Most people use cat litter boxes because the “rabbit” ones are too small.

I agree… I was ALWAYS having to change even the jumbo rabbit litter boxes every day. Switch to one for a cat, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. I can go three days before changing mine!! It’s wonderful.

He really just sounds like a growing bunny.

Well, I followed your suggestions and finally got him a cat box and some wood stove pellets.  It is too early to tell if I will have to change it less often as I didn’t have a full box’s worth of litter left, but I think AL likes it! He jumped right in and started eating hay right away.  He is also clearly quite comfy.

Thanks for all of your input!!

Looks like you have the exact same box as I do, mine’s beige though. I love mine, it’s great!

Mine did exactly that for the first few months. There was tons. It has settled down now but I still have to change his box every day, which if I don’t he starts to smell. But I thought it was normal to change the litterbox every day.

I think it was a growth spurt too. You did the right thing of getting a bigger litter box, that probably will work.
