Toys I made today… all the cardboard came from the maze, the raftia (is that what that string stuff is called??) I had lying around the house for some reason, the long pieces of wood I got from the pet store and they had holes already drilled, the shorter wood block pieces I had gotten a while ago from a website and drilled holes in this morning, and the zigzag stuff is “Shredders” that’s made for parrots but is safe for bunnies to shred up and chew too!

Really good! My 2 fosters apparently love to toss toys and they throw them around every day, but only nibble a little bit!

i was thinking about constructing something, probably a hanging toy made out of a maze circle and some bunny safe knotted rope, but do you think that could be a strangulation risk? i would be very worried about that…

                          1 Empty Oatmeal Container

                          4 Sheets of Newspaper

1 quarter of an apple (anything less and the rabbit can’t smell it)

Put the apple at the bottom of the oatmeal container, stuff the newspaper into the oatmeal container, set on the ground and watch the rabbit go bonkers trying to get the apple out.  My latest foster rabbit loves it, or hates it, I can’t determine which.  He is getting better at getting to the apple though.  Sometimes I have to hold onto the oatmeal container or he gets bored rolling it around and goes back into his cage.

Is the “rope” raffia or Sisal?

I can’t see what it looks like very well, but maybe you could tell me. Does the rope look like actual rope, or did you have to separate from several strangs that can be opened into paper.
I’m terrible at describing, but sisal’s used for making homemade cat-scratchers, and I was wondering if it’s bunny safe? When I buy Raffia, it usually comes kinda in a long strang which can be cut to size and if you wanted to, it can be opened up into a thin sheet of paper.

I have some Sisal from a cat project, but I also have Raffia from my crafting days. Are both safe to use as bunbun toys???

                            Here’s Raffia

                            Here’s Sisal

Awesome to make your own toys, that’s fantastic! Personally, I find empty paper towel or tiolet paper rolls keep rabbits entertained quite nicely!
But if I had skills like YOU do…I’d make a toy palace! LOL

Oh gosh, I haven’t been on in forever, but it actually is sisal not raffia! I was confused when I wrote the post. But my understanding is that both are safe for rabbit toys- I actually have toys made from both. They have lots of paper towel tube toys too but those don’t make for as pretty of photos
