My mother found a lost dog and I know all the popular lost bird sites (parrot alert, etc), but am unsure which ones are popularly used by dog owners since I am not in the dog community. Anyone know which ones would be most likely to be recommended to a person who has lost their dog? I checked craigslist, but I know there are usually more dedicated sites for such things.

She’s posted up flyers around to try to find the owner as well. She’s going to send me a picture, then I will call the shelters around her to see if they have had a missing dog reported of his description. It’s a pit bull, so I intend to make sure she’s VERY cautious about answering peoples responses to her finding a missing dog, since would hate for a fake claim to come that had bad intentions based on his breed.

          Petfinders.

Did she see if he was microchipped? I think the shelter can check or your vet.

No, she hasn’t checked yet, she had doctors appointments etc today for my grandmother.

Petfinder… ah, didn’t think of that, just think of it as a shelter listing! Will look there, thanks.

there’s a few. Also google missing dog alert in your area might give you more local companies. Another good resource is spreading the word on fb. Sometimes a friend of a friend knows the owner.

Well – we combed all the ads, she posted flyers, I called the humane societies in the area and can’t find anyone looking for the little boy. She’s taking him tomorrow to check for a chip, but if he doesn’t have one, she’s going to keep him – he was wearing a harness, but no tags. She was originally scared to introduce him to her dogs, but she sent me a picture and he’s not a full pit, he is a lab mix so that calmed her enough (even though I told her she was crazy, if he was sweet he was sweet and his breed had nothing to do with it ). He gets along with all her dogs and the cats.

awh well I’m glad she had room for him! The owners could still show up but it’s a tragedy for both when a pet is lost. I’m glad this has a happy ending though!

Yeah from his nails and the amount of starvation he was under I am guessing about a month or more since he was last cared for, the nails are super long and he was so skinny you could count his ribs. She lives out on 5 acres of land in the middle of nowhere, so he has plenty of room to run if no owners show up. And a great dane to play with.

Downside for my mother… all her dogs sleep in the bed and with the dane she already has so little space left, so now she has to try to fit on an even smaller spot
