7-8 Month old Mini Rex Female Rabbit
We got her in the spring, trained her using good information from this site, putting stuff back in litter box, moving her in there if she is about to go pee, putting it in the corner she was using etc etc. Removing any litter from the cage except from the litter box, putting by the litter box you name it it was used and it worked like a charm in less than a week. We gradually gave her more and more area to roam. She never made a mistake except when I gave her the whole first floor she seemed to like marking the spot near the front door so we just keep that area blocked off while she is out.
Now after a great spring and summer she out of no where has LOST her awesome habbits. Started with a few droppings not making it to the litter, put them back, then more and more and more and now after less than a week she just goes everywhere minus her food or sleeping spot. Even tried moving her food down she still goes there. Now she will even pee the odd time not in her litter box (just a bare bottom pen), she is still alright out however she has a cardboard castle she can climb and chew while out and she will leave droppings in there out of no where now, also she will on the couch.
What happen nothing in the envirnment has changed, her diet hasnt changed, location of items in her pen, living room hasnt changed. Why out of no where does she go from being perfect to completely not. I am afraid of her soon peeing outside her litter box in the living room. I really dont want to keep her penned up that does not seem fair and complete torture.
I have her scheduled to get spayed yet my friend had rabbits growing up and she said she never did and hers never had this issue. So I am so worried that this is an ingrained habit that will not go away even after spending uber money at the vet which my husband is not overly impressed at the cost.
She is so great with the kids and puts up with them never bites them just stretches out to get loads of pets, will tolerate being picked up and almost laid on. She rather be pet on the ground and will actively seek it from them, and follow them around and come when called. Isnt one to come and lay on your lap but beside you. Really hope getting her spayed will not change this demeanor and affect her relationship with the kids, and all their friends.
