Sorry about making so many posts on here lol! Just wanna make sure my bunny is happy and healthy!
She’s about 6-7 months old and she’s overweight. Her previous owners were just not good to her all around. She has a dewlap and I would consider her somewhat obese..I’ve seen bigger but she definitely is overweight. Is there a healthy way to help her lose a few pounds?

Really?! I was in a pet store recently and showed a worker a picture of my bunny and she was completely surprised that she had one and asked if she was pregnant! And we said no, so she figured she must just have it because she’s overweight. I’m not too sure what kind of bunny she is..people have guessed a magpie harlequin. We got her about 2 weeks or so ago, from someone who didn’t want her anymore. We don’t really know much other than she’s 6-7 months old. We’ve only really picked her up twice but I’d say she’s around 4 to 5 pounds. But my assumption was because the pet store clerk was so shocked, that our rabbit must be over weight.
Thanks for letting me know her dewlap is normal!

Thank you for taking this girl in!

And yes, it’s normal for girl buns. The dewlap provides an energy reserve during pregnancy and lactation and it also gives the bun easy access to her own fur when she’s nesting. Bunnies “wrap” their newborn babies in fur because they leave the babies to themselves and only come to feed them twice a day. The fur on the dewlap comes loose late in the pregnancy so the bun can pull it out without hurting herself.

In a boy, a dewlap is more often a sign of obesity.
