Hi this is Carolyn! We had a male Holland lop that just passed on Monday. We still have a lion head that is about 15 mos. old, male, neutered (Harley). We’re thinking of getting another bunny. Leaning towards another Holland lop. But looking for thoughts of other breeds that might fit our desires. Has to be affectionate, on the small side, and preferably another male. Also, should I be concerned about bringing another rabbit into the house— what can I expect from Harley? I’m not worried about trying to bond them,,, if they bond great, but if not we have two pens. I’m more concerned about behavior from either rabbit due to the change in environment. Our two were bonded until about 6-7 mos old and then they turned aggressive and we had to split them up. Any thoughts appreciated. Thank you!

Sorry to hear your sweet bun has passed *Binky on little one*

You can’t guarantee that an animal you bring into your life is going to have the personality you desire (“has to be affectionate”) even if they are a breed commonly associated with certain characteristics. However, I’d recommend going to a shelter. At least the staff will know the bunny’s personalities, at least to some degree It might also be worth taking your bun to the shelter for a ‘date’ to see if there are any buns he ‘clicks’ with. Although keep in mind, when you choose new bun, he/she will need a few weeks to settle in before you start pre bonding.

Hi Sarah, You’re right, we can’t guarantee an affectionate personality, but I was seeking advice on people’s experiences with more affectionate breeds. I’ve since Googled and gotten some advice. I think we’re leaning towards another Holland Lop. Thank you for your advice! And thank you for your kind words,,,,,our Sammy was very sweet and I miss him dearly Harley has more of a tough love personality, lol ;(
