So I talked to the only vet in the area that all other vets said to talk to about female spaying…even she said she doesn’t do as many of them as boys…of course.
But I told her that my almost 5 month old bun has sprayed me twice…has quite a skunky smell etc. Also is showing food aggression (new addition of behavior) She says are you sure its a female as they don’t spray nearly as often as boys. And she offered to check next week. So I googled it up how to tell…and sure enough she has a total slit and no hole. So really am suspecting she is a girl. And the person I got her from breeds them for a living…and seemed to really know her stuff so even though I got her a 8 weeks and breeder sexed it then I’m sure she was right.
Anyway’s I’ve toyed around the idea of getting her a bunny friend…just cause I feel bad that she is alone. I mean we spend oodles of time with her, tons! And she has her indoor hutch which is decent size 19″L x 41″W x 24″H as well she gets to run around the house a little bit, not a ton. But she also has a hutch outside with a sizeable run she gets to go to on nice days. (today its rainy)
But everytime we go near the inside cage day or night she’s clamouring to get out which makes me sad. So vet said if looking to get another bunny usually I suggest leaving the female intact and getting a male and fixing him only. Or get another female. So that sounds good…but I wonder if that will help her spraying, and stinky skunk smell or only make it worst having a compainion. I don’t want to jump from the pan into the fire with this
I’m personally very sensitive to smells…I completely clean her cage 3 times a week!! Anyways thats the situation now…looking for any advice.
Also if I go ahead and get her spayed should the skunk smell get better, or is that just a gamble?
