Long term recovery from head tilt

Hey all I have a couple of questions but I’m gonna start with the background info. Last Thursday Amelia went to the emergency vet because she had suddenly lost her sense of balance, on Friday we followed up with her regular vet and by that time had developed a very slight head tilt. The vet thought her ears looked very clean, but still started her on antibiotics (sulfamethoxazole/trimeth.). The vet also thought there was a chance that it is e cuniculi, she wanted to wait to start meds for that until she finished the antibiotics, but I told her I would rather start them now. So she is also on a 28 day course of panacure. She is also on meclizine for dizziness and nausea. At this point she very rarely loses her balance when she is on the dizziness meds, but she does stumble as they start to wear off, or before they kick in in the morning. She is holding her head good until she gets tired and then she has a slight right tip.

What I’m curious about is will her symptoms fully disappear? Is she always gonna have a slight stumble now, and slight head tilt when she gets tired?

It’s possible they will fully disappear! Often, people see the most improvement in the weeks following end of medicating. Since youve already seen improvements, I think there is a good chance Amelia won’t have any residual effects. So much does depend on what is the cause and any damage that is done.

My rabbit Maple (now passed away) developed head tilt in 2013. I don’t know the exact cause but she was treated for both ear infection and ec. She developed a 90 degree tilt and went into full on rolling episodes for a while. She also dropped a fair amount of weight. She recovered with balance and head straight again .

It was probably her weight that took the longest to come back.

The fewer the symptoms, and the sooner you see improvement, the more likely your bunny will make a full recovery.
