Alrite well I’ve been a long time stalker of these forums as a guest and I finally decided to join. Honestly, without this site I don’t know what I’d do.

Okay well this might be long, but if I’m gonna introduce myself I guess I better do it right, so here we go…

I have been a bunny momma for about two years now. I bought my first rabbit on the spur of the moment at a pet store. ( I know better now)  I remember asking one of the pet store assosciates if any of the rabbits were smarter than the other and thats how I ended up with a little bun known for hopping into other pens and stealing the food from the guinea pigs. The assosciate told me the rabbit was a little girl and my boyfriend was surprised to come home to a new addition, “Princess Panda Bunny Bear”. Little did we know a couple months later my Princess was actually a Prince…luckily I picked a pretty neutral name and I just had to change the royal title.

Now the sad part…My little (he really wasn’t very little) Panda Bear unfortunately crossed over almost a year ago. I look back and wish I had known then what I know now. I really did give him the best care I could give him with the limited knowledge that I possesed and I like many others didn’t realize that a lot of people at the pet stores that I was going to for my information had very little knowledge themselves. Also I learned wayyyy too late that just because something says it is for rabbits really doesn’t mean that it is good for them.  One night my little boy was a little listless and was kind of breathing funny my boyfirend assured me it was nothing, but he said that if it bothered me so much we could look into seeing a vet tommorrow. (I didn’t already have a vet at the time…didn’t realize how important it was) The next morning I found him barely breathing and after calling in a favor to a my boyfriend’s family friend who happened to be a vet since we could not find one to take us or that worked on rabbits we rushed to her and finally learned a little too late how wrong I was taking care of my bun. I was given medication, but the vet made it very clear that a lot of times by the time you find out something is wrong with a rabbit it can be too late. My rabbit died in my arms as soon as we got back from the vet and although I tear up about it now I know that I loved my buns and he loved me and that even though he can’t be with me today I know he’s close. I like to think that the gift from it all was that if this whole tragedy had not happened I would have never known how little knowledge that I had when it came to house rabbits and I would have never learned and been able to let other people know before they get into a similar situation. That’s why I love this site so much…it has so much information and it gives us all a place to conncect and learn. It’s just great!

Only about a week after his passing I went back to that pet store. I was hooked I know it sounds like I was trying to replace my Panda Bear but truley I just missed having a buns around. There was just something missing in my house and rabbits just bring this whole other energy and immense love and it’s like no other pet I’ve had. But I really swear I was only going in to be around some bunnys, I had been pretty depressed for that week and I just kept looking at videos and pictures of my Panda and I just needed to be around that energy again. Right when I walked in the door I saw this little black and white thing hopping around while all the other buns were trying to sleep. I saw her….and I couldn’t help it I had to have her. This time I didn’t ask the assosciate to sex the rabbit, because she didn’t know what she was talking about anyway. I came home with this little angel that night much to the dismay of the boyfriend. He was scared…he already went through me with one loss and he was still grieving for Panda so for the first couple of days he kind of tried to not fall in love with her…it didn’t work. We decided to name her Sesame Seed BunBuns…..BunBuns for short. This time around I researched like nobodys business. I found this site (yay) and a couple of other ones and I just was so happy that I was learning so much and could now give the new addition to our family what she needed. I also got a vet right off the bat, but unfortunately for some time( nine months to be exact) I just could not bring myself to spay my little BunBuns. Finally just yesterday I had it done…I was just so scared to lose another, but after she had a hysterical pregnancy there was no way around it. Plus the risk of cancer was also so high and I just did not want to lose another bunny espescially if it was because of something I didn’t do to make her healthy. She is doing great by the way! I don’t know why I was so worried but she is basically her old self still as lovey as ever. The only thing was right after she was a little bit groggy, but other than that she is a champ!

And finally that brings me to the newest addition to my family…a little boy by the name of Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins (Mugs). This time I did not go to that pet store! Yay!

My boyfriend and I had been talking about getting a husbun for our little girl for the past couple months and so every so often I looked on craigslist or petfinder to just see some possibilites and I also started to set up a new cage. I knew that it could never happen until we got our baby spayed, but it was still fun to look and prepare. So actually the day before BunBuns surgery I was on craigslist and saw an ad for two neutered rabbits that a very kind lady was fostering. I knew right then that I had to go see her so we set up a time after my BunBuns got back from her surgery and I went and saw her while the boyfriend watched BunBuns. She was amazing and a great wealth of information and I brought back with me a little boy and to think someone dumped him in a publix dumpster!!!!!

So I have no intentions of trying to bond them until about a month from now so BunBuns can properly heal…they’re cages are on opposite sides of the room and only one is allowed out at a time…which is so wierd for me since BunBuns was never in her cage she was free roaming. (The vet said to keep her in there though for the next 10 days anyway.) I think the bonding will go okay though since when one is out they almost always want to go over to the others cage and lick eachother through the bars. It’s actually ridiculously cute.

So now if you made it through that LONG post it’s time for some Pictures!

One of the first days that I had Panda Bear. Adorable much?

This is one of the last photos of him…he loved to watch t.v. from up there oh and chew on the mop my boyfriend calls hair.

My Panda Baby BunnyBear…I will miss you RIP.

Sesame Seed BunBuns her first night…She was sooo tiny.

One of BunBuns favorite things to do is torture my cat Miley…poor Mileykins.

Seriously my favorite picture of her ever…she is such a fat fat lovebuns.

And our new boy….Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins….NomNom.

Aww…poor BunBuns has to stay inside while she heals up.

Okay well that’s it! (Sorry so long)

                  Welcome aboard!

Condolences for Panda; he was such a cute bun.

I absolutely adore the names you gave your rabbits, so precious. And I appreciate you writing a long intro post (I wrote a long one as well)! The pictures at the end just bring it all home. They all look so precious and cute. I especially love the one with BunBun lying with your BF, that one is so precious. Also, I like the one with the two buns next to one another, the very last picture, so cute! :3 I have a feeling you won’t have too much trouble bonding these two buns if they seem to already be getting along and licking one another through the cage.

I love the pictures, and welcome :3

Thanks he really was my little bunny bear, but I know he’s happy wherever he is.

My boyfriend tends to not be so fond of the names and sometimes ends up creating his own special one…Mugs has now become Sir Mugsley when the bf calls him.

I’m glad I’m not the only one to write such a long post, I just went and read yours and your babies are little cutiepies. I had to save up for BunBuns spay as well and I also was scared I’d lose her (Literally I cried at the vet, he asked if I had any questions and I just broke down and was like, “You won’t kill my bunny will you? “) but it’s only been a couple days and already the amount of difference I see in her is tremendous and definitely worth it.

I use to come home to marking (poops and pee) all around my cats litter box and now not only is my carpet poop free I just looked over and Miles and BunBuns were actually laying next to each other! BunBuns normally would terrorize my poor kitty. =(

I hope the bonding process goes smoothly…I have a feeling BunBuns is going to dominate little Mugs, but hey I’m pretty sure I wear the pants in my relationship too. (Don’t tell the bf…I’m not sure he knows yet lol )

Aw, well Sir Mugsley is quite the cute little name as well. :]

Thank you! For now I think I’ll be able to get Pixie spayed, once I have the money in my bank account (since right now it’s not). I’m still in search of a good vet close to my location, so far I’ve only gotten one response but they are so expensive (understandably of course). So I’m waiting for a few more responses just to see. Oh I’m scared too, this will be the first time I’ve personally gotten a rabbit spayed (not sure about the ones in my childhood since there were two but i was so young and they were free range rabbits and during different times of my life). I’m not sure what to expect, I’m so nervous about it and it’s not close for me to have it done yet — I’m hoping in the next month or two for my big girl Pixie at least.

I cannot wait until my buns can go freely throughout the house and my room and not poop or pee every where. It’ll be so nice!

I think it should if they seem to be this close already. I’m waiting to bond mine, but I have to spay first :]

                          Welcome!!!

I wanted to touch on the pet store thing for two reasons; -1 that most of us went that route and then found out better so don’t beat yourself up. and 2-My beloved Kokanee was from a petstore and didn’t make it two years, my vet was sure it was a genetic thing from poor breeding so this may be another pitfall of petstores, so I again want to say, don’t beat yourself up over an early rainbow bridge crossing, that may just be fate for the poor buns destined for pet stores.

And the last thing I had to say is, we all grieve differently and no one judges you for getting another bunny or thinking that you were trying to replace Panda. Most of us have been there and getting another bunny is about opening your heart to another being, never about replacing *HUGS*

So I hope I phrased that right-that no one is judging you and many of us have been there …and WELCOME!! Adorable pictures, thank you for sharing And so glad to hear you joined and found this forum helpful Not only have I relied on it for years for information but also to keep my friends and family members sane-many of us just share the bunny stories here that non-bunny-owners get sick of hearing

Kokanneandkahlua…thank you so much! You phrased that so well and even though intelligently I know what you are saying is true it is nice to hear someone else say it and have someone have a similar experience.

Thank you again…it made me feel soo much better.
