(sorry in advance for writing so much..they’re my babies and I could talk about them all day!)
Hi there! I’m a long time lurker but haven’t posted much until recently. I have two rabbits, Bunny and Jack. I’m guessing Bunny is 4 now. But I won’t let her get over 4 so next year she’ll be 3 again I’ve been told Jack is 7…but I’m not exactly sure on either of them. I’ve had Bunny for a little over 3 years, and Jack for less than 1. They both are my lovies, my mother likes them, but Bunny and Jack seem to only like me. They’ll let me do anything to/with them, but rarely let anyone else even pick them up.
Jack is the brawn of the operation, he’s a big boy, but he isn’t exactly the brightest guy. He’s my little boy who is stuck in his terrible twos and LOVES making trouble and messes.
Bunny is my baby, she’s very smart, pretty, sweet, and is a little princess. She’s definitely the brains in the duo. She’s a Holland Lop mix, but I don’t know what Jack is..any help would be awesome!
I got Bunny (my first every rabbit) from a 4H fair several years ago. I didn’t like her because she was so plain (I had liked a black and white one, who was cute, but he ended up winning a blue ribbon, so they kept him) But Bunny didn’t have any food in her dish, and they wanted $10 for her. My mother panicked because she figured they were starving her since her sister had food and a ribbon. (knowing Bunny now, we know she’s just a total piggy) We agreed to buy her. Talk about an impulse buy. I knew rabbits were just like hamsters though, so it wasn’t going to be a problem. She had poopy butt like crazy, was MEAN, and she smelled icky I knew I had totally gotten the worst rabbit possible. We went to the farm store and got a cage and food, put her in my room and called it good. Since she smelled, I moved her to the basement. No hay. Food when her dish was empty, and I went down to the basement. That was it. Horribleeeee life for four months, I’m ashamed of it
But then one day I realized she could be litter box trained I knew she was so smart! I was carrying her and her box down to the dungeon of doom when we got to the top of the stairs and she didn’t want to go down…so she hopped out of my arms and landed on the tile. And started seizing. It took that moment (scariest thing in my life) to realize how much I loved her. She came back up to my room. I started trying to find out about seizures and what to expect online when I cam across the HRS. After that, everything went well Got her trained, then spayed, everything. She became my child and not only that, but the sweestest, greatest creature on the planet. I love her more than oxygen. And I feel like I always will owe her for that, but she’s the most forgiving creature I know.
With all I learned from this website and HRS, I made her life comfy and wonderful and wondered about getting her a husbun. I didn’t want her to love him more though So I put it off for a while. I wanted a rabbit from COHRS, but I couldn’t stand to give Bunny up for X months while they bonded them. So I went onto craigslist and found a rabbit that a woman needed to get rid of. She had wayyy too many animals and he was one who had to go. His name was Jack Jack, he was 7 years old, neutered, a rex (I wanted a rex so bad!), and he “needed cleaning up”
Perfect! I convinced my mom, and sort of surprised my grandma… and went down to get him. He was sitting in a cardboard box in the middle of the yard. He was super mellow. It wasn’t until she pulled him out that i realized he was NOT a rex, and his nails were at least three inches long. She had given him a bath though. She said he had NEVER had his nails clipped. I still agreed to buy him, and brought him home. He let me clip his claws (bless his heart) and after three stressful weeks…Bunny and Jack finally bonded
I am forever a slave to rabbits. I love rabbits and horses more than anything. And it’s all because of Bunny. I have the best tattoo for my rabbit babies, mom and grandma; and I couldn’t be happier with the bunnies in my life, and on my arm
Sorry again for writing so much! And I hope someone knows what Jack is! Otherwise I’m hoping to figure it out this weekend at the COHRS’ Spring Fling
