I recently had to do a long distance move in the car. It was three days and three nights of driving and staying at hotels in the middle. Right now we are staying two weeks at company housing until we can move into the house.
And my bunny took it like a champ!!!!!
I was worried. So very very horribly worried in between two days of movers (who he couldn’t have cared much about either. When a person took apart my bed his cage is next to he was alert and just sniffed and parascoped and sniffed at them.) And the trip and staying in hotels.
He’s literally fine. He’s been peeing on the bed, trying to destroy everything, and honking at me because it’s spring and baby’s.
I took him in a cat carrier with towels and dishrags on the bottom and those hay and alfafa cubes in his cage and treats. At stops I put in his water bowl, he drank more at night when I set up his tiny cage that I took down and repacked in the morning.
I kept him next to me on the floor. I wasn’t driving. He didn’t drink too much the first three days but I got his head wet to keep him cooler when I could. He ate and drank less but didn’t stop.
Being at the hotels I let him run with me on the bed because the beds are high and hotels aren’t bunny proof
but he seemed okay with that.
Now we are here he’s eating and drinking a ton and I’m so proud of him. He dealt with the trip much better than I did. He’s blinkied around. He’s making happy noises cleaning himself.
I just wanted to post this here because I couldn’t find much on it. The car trip was 19 hours driving wise (with stops obviously took much longer). I hope this helps others know it might be okay with their bun and moving. They are stronger than we think sometimes.
If anyone has questions let me know
