Hi guys! This is my first post, but I’ve been reading loads from here. Everybody seems very helpful and knowledgeable so I decided to take the leap and start posting.
So, after much searching, I found out there are no rabbit shelters in my area. There are a few breeders, but none for dwarf rabbits. So I ended up looking for a bunny at pet stores. There was one pet shop that seemed very reputable. The animals were very clean and well looked after.
And that’s how I ended up with my baby fuzzy/lion lop, Frost.
Problem is, when I asked the staff how old the babies were, one of the women checked some papers and said that they were all 8 weeks old. The babies were all of different sizes though, but I thought that might be because some might be false dwarfs/ runts. When I was at the cashier however, a man who looked to be the manager told me that the bunnies were 4-6 weeks old. It was all very confusing and I already got the bunny (Plus my mum had her heart set on it) so we just went home with it. We did ask for the bunny’s birthday, but they said they didn’t know.
Anyway, Frost is coming along very nicely now. He/She is eating her/his hay and baby pellets very well from day one and seems to be an old hand with the water bottle. It’s been five days, but she/he was already used to us by the second day and was doing binkies and zoomies. He/she just learned to jump on stuff on the third day with us. Frost loves being petted and occasionally licks us. I’m just very nervous that the bunny might lack nutrients if it did turn out Frost was only 4 weeks old when we got her/him. She/he is also quite gassy (But it doesn’t seem to bother her/him), so I gave him/her some belly massages and the tummy gurgles are less now.
Is it possible to help me age him/her based on these pictures?
These were taken yesterday. Frost was only an long as my hand when hunched up the day we bought her/him.

This was taken the day we got her/him-

        Thank you !
(Hopefully, the pictures work this time).

Sorry about that DX. Do you know how to attach them correctly? I tried uploading them and then clicking the button with a plus sign, but it didn’t work…

You have to be in the advanced mode of posting… then there should be an ‘attachment’ tab/button.

Eta : Not the ‘quick reply’ mode.

Beautiful pictures!!! What a little darling!

The problem with uploading pics is most often size. Pucs need to be under 500 in. You can shrink them in Paint or VarieDrop or some other free software. I use Photofiltre7.

Your pictures are working in your first post now. I’m not sure what was wrong, when I went in to fix them they simply appeared as they should.

Welcome to the forum, Frost is very cute. The age range 4-6 weeks seems about right, but I couldn’t tell you where in that range he/she sits.

It would have been way better for him to have been with Mum till 8-9 weeks of course ( and in no way am I saying that it is ok that the petshop is selling them this young as it isn’t ok! And I hope one day there is rules against it )
However, that’s not your fault of course and I’m glad he / she has a owner that wants to learn and do all he can for him / her from here
How long have you had him ? Is it first day or 4-5days? ( to get an idea of how long you have had to be able to assess his eating etc)
Does he seem fully weaned? Eating the amount he should?
About his body size in hay daily ?
Do you have him on a good brand of pellets? I use oxbow but there are a few other great ones too ( make sure you don’t change his pellets brand quickly though if he isn’t on a good one
leave him on it for at least a week since you just recently got him / her then change it very very very slowly – like over a month or 6weeks as their stomachs are sensitive especially if he was weaned at 3-4wk ish age )
If he is eating normally and his poop is normal then he should be ok on the weaned early front – next I would book a vet visit – so they can check him all over for mites, worms , fleas – check his teeth and everything else over
Don’t give him any vege – and with the gassy tummy I’d talk all that over with the vet if you can take him in for check up in next day or so but most important to know is stasis can be extremely dangerous – watch for him it eating or drinking or pooing – any of the above
He would need seen straight away by a vet in that case
