Hello there! I’m new to the site and had a little question about my bun Houdini.
As you can see, my poor guy has a broken leg. A few days after we got him he was still nervous and he jumped, resulting in his tiger-striped splint. That splint is actually what I want to ask about, because even the vet had no idea! After he came to from the sleepy gas, Houdini flipped himself onto his back and laid there for a good minute, as if to say “I can’t possibly walk or even stand NOW! What have you done to me?” The silly guy showed no signs of any kind of distress and seemed quite content to lay there and stare at us until one of us moved.
The nurse just laughed, saying he was a drama king, which made sense. He’s a surprisingly vocal bunny when upset, throwing stuff or even ‘screaming’ (an assortment of loud sounds, seemingly nearly any sound he could possibly make, rather than the screams of a panicked bun, couldn’t think of a better word for it) when even mildly inconvenienced. And yes, he is neutered, so it’s not hormones making him silly.
So, my friends, has anyone else ever experienced a bun just laying on it’s back when it’s paws/legs are messed with? Or was he maybe ‘high’ from the sleepy gas still? In all my years of bun care (used to help breed show rabbits when little) I’ve never had a bun as…quirky as him. For an antisocial bun he really knows how to get his point across.
