I got my first rabbit a little over a week ago
He’s from the shelter, fixed, about 4, his form said he wasn’t litter trained, he was an outside bunny, and a breeder ( otter mini Rex). I feel like iwon the rabbit lottery. He’s not a big chewer or digger so far. He’s really comfortable with people, not cuddly (at least not yet, fingers crossed). And dispite not being litter trained he’s taken to it pretty fast.
He only peed outside his cage once and it was when he escaped in the night and was locked out of his cage. But in the last few days he started pushing his box to the middle of his cage and pooping where the box used to be. He still pees in the litter box, I’m pretty happy about that. I’ve been cleaning his litter box every other day and every day I sweep up poops not in the box, sometimes I just put them in the litter box and sometimes I throw them away. He poops a little in the litter box still. I’m not super worried but I’d like to address this sooner rather then later so he has good habits.
I use a 12×9 box with low sides, carefresh-like litter and Timothy hay , and I put his hey rack next to his box. His box is toward the front of his cage so it’s easier to get to and clean. His cage is a puppy play pen 4×4 and lenolium floor.
I’d love some advice.
