Wick has a good setup. With scissors, cut two lines parallel toward the base but stop a few inches from the bottom, spaced wide enough to let the rabbit through, then bend the piece between those lines out and cut along the base, leaving you with an elevated U shaped cut-out. This will stop most of the flying litter, but to protect your floor lay down a towel folded over once underneath the box, making sure it protrudes far beyond it.
I agree with tobyluv
At a later date, you could build something like this hay stack/ litter tray I built for Autumn if it’s not too much trouble. All this really is is T and G cladding cut to size and nailed together. You could use any timer planks but avoid toxic woods such as oak, softwood is safe. Don’t need a base as the storage box takes care of that. one nail was put in the back of the square lid on the chimney to make it swivel to load hay
