So, the good thing is that Lapinou 100% always goes into his cage to pee. The bad news is that he seems to poop everywhere.
I took him in from a coworker who no longer wanted him and she gave me the cage he has always had, roughly 1.5ft x 3ft at best. My speculation is that he spent most of his time in it, 9 to 5 and then overnight, perhaps more. It was clear that he used one corner of the cage to urinate and on the opposite side there is a little shelf and he would sleep under it.
After 2 months or so in our home, he is full time free range within a room of our house. Until I can purchase some area carpeting, I’ve spread out a mixture of blankets and a fleecy pet bed for him (he does not fancy the hard flooring). He will poop on all of it. Today when I did a thorough clean I decided to start throwing the poops back into his cage. Is there anything I can do to encourage him to poop in there where he also pees?
Down the road, I would like to get rid of the cage altogether if possible but not sure if that is a good idea.
I should mention I don’t know his age, but she told me last year she thought he was around 3, so not sure if he is up for learning new behaviors?
Apologies for the poor formatting, I’m on my mobile which seems to discourage paragraphs.
