Litter Trained Bun Peeing Outside Box

I need help with an issue, I have tried researching and trying different things with no success. I got my newest bun Leo about 2 months ago, and he is happily bonded with Kai. Things were amazing the first month and a half, but recently Leo has been peeing outside of the litter box. I have tried changing litter boxes more frequently, detail cleaning the rug they are on with white vinegar multiple times to remove the scent, and added a second litter box to their condo. Last night I detail cleaned the rug again and this morning right in front of me, he started peeing on it. I picked him up and placed him in the litter box and he finished. Then, not even 10 minutes later he peed again on the rug. I am open to any and all suggestions, their condo is in the living room and a rug filled with rabbit urine smells pretty awful. I have attached a picture of their set up, they are the lops on the “second floor”. Thank you for taking the time to read this!!

Extra tidbits: All buns are neutered. Leo and Kai have been “bonded” for about a month. They seems to be okay with one another but they don’t cuddle like Kai and Thea (his previous mate) did. The rug is a new rug, it has only been used by these bunnies.

Gosh that would really suck ! I know the smell well. My male bunny only did that when I was bonding and switching pens. He would pee on the carpet in ” her ” pen, yet he was litter trained for a year previous. After bonding I put them on a floor in the living room and shampooed the carpets.

Yours is peeing all over the room on the carpet ?

Maybe someone has experience with this and some thoughts.

He doesnt mess on the living room carpet when out with Kai during play time. The carpet that they are on is new to them both and introduced when I made the condo. Maybe I could borrow someone’s shampooer, or just buy a new rug for the condo.

So Mr. Bun-bun has a huge walk in closet the we call his palace for his very own. He absolutely refuses to use his litter box except to sit in. So I started putting down news paper on the as it hard wood. I also put card board down. I let him have his way thus finding out where he uses the bathroom. I have saved my self alot time and effort doing this. So now when I clean out his palace, I still put diwn news paper however under that I put pee pee pads down. The kind for training puppies. It sticks to the floor and he doesn’t know it is there. So the floor no longer gets wet and the smell is held at bay. It has been great.

Yesterday I went out and purchased sheet vinyl, cut it to size and replaced the rug that was currently in their condo.Not even 5 minutes after I did this Leo began to pee on the vinyl, granted it was a lot easier to clean up, I am concerned about it getting on the buns feet and underside. Over the last 24 hours Leo has “marked” his territory many times, and each time I am cleaning it up with vinegar. Poor Kai’s feet were wet this morning and I feel awful. 

Another thing that I noticed this morning, which is out of character, is that Leo began mounting Kai during breakfast. This behavior happened at the beginning of their bonding and they have been good and “mount-free” for several weeks.

I am currently researching options to resolve this and am open to any ideas!! I will be taking a damp cloth this evening to the both of them to clean up the urine, but I would like to know how to correct this behavior. I appreciate your help!!!
